Ip Surveillance Camera Setup

We have purchased two of these so far to use primarily as NVRs for a large number of IP cameras on a school campus. Licensing costs aside, Synology Surveillance Station does a really nice job making it easy to set up and scale with the number of cameras you have. We linked two together, making one the primary and the other a secondary target for recordings. Surveillance Station records direct-to-disk, and does a decent job of adjusting camera settings directly using ONVIF. We have about 50+ cameras running at resolutions from 1280x720 up to 2560x1600, some PTZ, some ceiling-mount fisheyes, mostly wide angle fixed, and everything works pretty well. We were even able to use the manual camera configuration to use some uncommon double-lens cameras. With about 26 cameras assigned to each RS422+, we see about 20-25% CPU on each on average during a typical day. We can comfortably handle 32 per unit, and supposedly up to 40 if needed. With x4 6TB drives in each set in SHR-1 (equivalent to RAID5) we have about a month or so of footage retention. The licensing is a little pricey at $50 per camera (unless you buy in bulk from some european IP camera shops...), but it is perpetual and I think worth the expense. Using two of these units, 8 cheap drives from eBay (luckily these do not suffer from the Synology whitelist) and a bunch of camera licenses, for around under $5000 I was able to build and set up a really easy to use and reliable NVR system with plenty of future expandability. 2-3 users are regularly connected on their desktops without issue. 5 |

There are lots of free applications for IP Cameras, but if you're serious about IP Surveillance you can't do better than Axis Camera Station, and the best way to acquire the licenses is from B&H. 5 |

This is exactly what I needed to get my old surveillance camera back up and running. Thanks. 5 |

Does what I needed powering an IP camera. 5 |

Easy to setup and configure. See exactly what you have plugged in and what IP address is on each port for identification. 5 |

The router was easy to setup after creating an account. The instructions manual which was downloaded from the site was handy, but really not needed for the setup. The setup was easy due to the on-screen information and easy to fill fields. This router is connected to my carrier's gateway using the IP pass-through method, thus it assigned a WAN IP to the router so I could create a separate network. The Asus RT-AX88U Pro is powerful. It covered more square footage with higher signal levels than the gateway installed by my carrier. I love its enhanced security features, which are standard and at no additional cost to the user, unlike other router manufacturers that charge a fee for such services. This is an outstanding router and highly recommended. It delivers the features and performance as advertised and seen in online reviews. 5 |

I really like the Synology NAS! Setup was easy, I just watched a YouTube video and I was set. It appeared on my home network and I was able to begin copying files to it right away. Pro tip: Assign an IP address to the MAC address in your home router so it has the same IP address for the rest of its life. 5 |

Honestly this is my first NVR. Setup and adoption was pretty straight forward. Only issue I had was after setting Static IP, I no long can adjust the IP unless I SSH into the device. Otherwise, it's a solid piece of hardware, a little heavy in the rear when mounted in a rack. Something to think about when mounting. 5 |

initial setup looks promising — much less frustrating to spin up AV/IP network for media production business using Netgear’s AV line compared to the nightmare I went through fighting with Ubiquiti’s enterprise switches. Sidenote — Netgear’s AV support team is a secret hidden in plain sight as a dedicated premium support channel which we’d otherwise expect to pay for from other vendors. Really impressed in the investment being made by the top @ Netgear — I’ll continue purchasing in the future if so. 5 |

Both ethernet and wifi have been great. I finally was able to setup port forwarding and static ip rules with no issues. Also love the traffic analyzer in the GUI. 5 |
