This headphone splitter does the job. It is only a few dollars but it does what it needs to. Easy to use.

This is a well made, simple splitter that allows one to use an external mic with an iPhone/iPad and monitor the sound with headphones. I keep it in a baggie in my messenger bag so that it doesn't get caught on anything, and always have it with me with a lav mic for interviews.

Some significant improvements over the standard plastic D-Tap splitter: - The metal housing makes it harder to insert a plug backwards, which may damage your device. Yes, it can be a tighter fit for some 3rd party D-Tap plugs that have looser manufacturing tolerances. The upside is that the plug will not fall out easily. - The braided cable with connector boots reduce cable stress and fraying. - One of the ports is regulated at 12v, which allow for certain accessories that only accept this fixed voltage (thinking of Sony's USB 3.1 AXS card reader). - The blue power indicator LED also helps prevent reverse connection problems if the splitter is plugged in to a power source the wrong way. -Threaded 1/4-20 hole on the bottom can be used to attach a QR plate. An ideal product for film technicians. Recommended.

7 frames/second with 18b battery. Lightweight. No cons so far.

I have a need for webcasting to push my Mic to 2 sources - one to a House system and the other to my webcast, both requiring Phantom power to the XLR splitter, but only 1 port was able to grab the Phantom from the House system. I put this in line for the other and now we don't need to keep our mixer online all the time just for the phantom power for the mic to work or constantly switching our outputs on the splitter. Just a timesaver and it works well - no issues.
