Is Construction Paper Toxic

I love this paper. It feels like a compromise between wet plate and the negative. Like wet plate collodion, you have a single final image. There is no print to be made from a negative. Which means that other than drying, everything from beginning to end can be done within a half hour. Also like wet plate, you have a super low ISO, which means you need a lot of light for portraiture. On the other hand, everything else is like film: loading the sheet holders, development with standard chemicals. That makes it a lot more affordable and significantly less toxic. I develop in caffenol, which means that really the most toxic part is the fixer. Harman DP brought me back to shooting large format.

Affordable, non-toxic option for high school students.

Wear approiate safety gear. This is a toxic chemical.

Low cost and long shelf life in addition to little toxic than the others.

This works just as well as the more toxic varieties on the market. Great that B&H carries this line.

Not a lot can go wrong here. Have used it once. As far as I know, the item is not exuding invisible toxic gasses.

Paper is fine for construction drawings, easy to load and use.

I bought this because my darkroom is in my basement and I want to take every precaution that I can to make sure I don't have toxic chemicals around my family. I seem to be pretty sensitive to chemical smells and I don't notice any perfume or chemical smell at all. I don't notice a difference in my prints since switching from the ilford developer I was using.

As a teacher I use this for my students feeling more positive about what I let them work with as well as knowing/hoping that what I put down the drain is less or not toxic at all. There is no difference in quality between this and any other photo chemicals I have used. To be even more eco friendly use the Fixer for multiple days, developer does need to be replaced each day though.

It’s been my go-to for a while. This is a great, reliable developer that yields (in my opinion) mighty fine results, and I appreciate that it’s (supposedly) less toxic than some other developers out there. I somewhat prefer it in the reusable stock solution, but I think that puts me in the minority—most people seem to use the one-shot 1:1 dilution. It’s relatively easy to mix, just be sure to pour the powder in slowly, otherwise it’ll clump and take longer to dissolve properly—another perk is that it can be mixed using room temperature water.
