When the brass, woodwind and large percussion orchestra filled the 600 seat auditorium with raucous music for Honegger's King David, the speaking parts within our 100 member community chorus didn't stand a chance of being heard. All our funds had been spent on orchestra and soloists. But the hall had a sound system, and I had a guiet old field mixer. I also had experience with a predecessor of the OLM-10. I took a chance and ordered six. For less than $150, they delivered excellent sound from voices among the singers. The omnidirectional pattern made for evenness with untrained performers. This mic will pretty much blow your mind with how clean it records. The brass instrument clip isn't that great. It wouldn't stay secured on the trumpet I mounted it on. Plus, certain mutes will prevent it from mounting entirely. I'm sure the clip is very instrument dependent, so plan for backup mounting options. When in doubt, gaff tape. 5 |

Home recording of woodwind horns is a balance of price and performance. This mic brings up the standard without breaking the budget. The bad news is the rest of the links in the signal change will need an upgrade for us to truly enjoy the benefits of this exciting new microphone. 5 |

Use these to get stereo recordings of live shows: Mariachis, Woodwind quintets, Blues duos, Brass bands, etc. They work really well with a Tascam DR100 digital recorder with its XLR mic inputs. Edit with Audacity and save as wav files. So far, so great. 5 |
