Is Six Cores Good For Gaming
Jonny | 2024-06-22 04:45:38 |
Six of the fastest CPU cores in the world plus hyperthreading on a mainstream socket, this CPU is what many of us have been waiting for. My sample achieved 5.0GHz and probably could do a little more, but I need 24/7 stability, so right now it is running at 4.6GHz at 1.19V to keep temperatures in check. I'm very satisfied, even though I had to pay over the MSRP due to scarcity, it seems worth it. 5 |

I like futurproof motherboard designs everytime I build a new PC which is not often. Six years after building my last gaming/productivity PC, I decided to go with MSI after looking at the competition closely. This 13th generation motherboard checked all the boxes and slightly beat the ASUS board in value (imho). DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0 slot, Gen 5 M.2, and Intel Wi-Fi 6E did it for me! Love this thing! 5 |

I'll start by saying I have over the years gone back and forth between AMD and Intel with whoever has the best CPU at the time for my gaming habits. This later also expanded into some stuff like video editing and streaming from time to time. Though I still use my system for gaming 95% of the time. That said I also love to build PC's and typically enjoy the higher end enthusiast builds. Because of this I have over the past 10 years been using Intel's HEDT motherboards like X79, X99 and now X299 chipsets. Currently running an X299 Asus Rampage VI Apex board I had originally purchased with an i9-7900X. Based on this I felt an easy and now cheaper upgrade to the i9-10920X CPU would be the best route. Yes there are better AMD CPU's out there right now, but Intel still does very well in the gaming performance. So since this was just a CPU swap out for me it was the best way to go I could keep everything else in my system as is. This motherboard has been rock solid and only 2 years old at this moment. I was not disappointed, this CPU works great out of the box. Has very good turbo features for those that don't know how to overclock. It will consistently run 2 cores at 4.8Ghz, 2 at 4.7Ghz, 2 or 3 at 4.6, and the rest at 4.5 down to 4.4. Using Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0 software you can force older games that use typically 1 main core to use your strongest cores first for the extra speed. If the program/game has great multicore support then you have the 12 cores which really is plenty for gaming and enough for a good balance of production unless you crunch videos all day. OC wise I have only messed with it some so far but it's not hard to get this CPU to 5.0Ghz on all cores with what I am using, a Corsair H115i Pro AIO water cooler. 5 |

The performance is excellent. 8 Cores for heavy loads and excellent for gaming as well. Especially for the price to performance. Thought about the 5800x but the 3700x is all I need and more and its plenty to push my RTX 3070 in 1440p 144HZ. The included Wraith Prism keeps it cooled to 40C idle and maxs in the mid 50's while gaming. 5 |

I purchased this processor for my gaming PC. 8 cores and 16 threads is plenty for my gaming and streaming needs. It runs cool and is more efficient than the 11th gen Intel counterparts. The initial launch price was a little high but BH Photo & Video had it on sale which made it a great deal. I paired it with an RTX 3080Ti and performance is nothing but spectacular. This is probably the best processor for gaming unless you need more cores for creativity apps. 5 |

It's is so overkill for gaming it's ridiculous. I run all 16 cores at 4.9 with no problems. I've clocked as high as 5.1 on some cores. It's a cpu designed for heavy multithreading. Gamers will see almost no gains over the other lower core cards. Other users who utilize it's many powerful cores will see massive improvement. 5 |
