It is a modern speaker with a hint of the companies retro look on the front grill. It is a high quality compact bluetooth/wifi speaker. It has all of the latest features like dual voice assistants, bluetooth 5.3, wifi, a wired LAN connection, a 3.5mm auxilary input. It has physical buttons and dials like play/pause, bluetooth, a favotites button and volume, treble and bass dials. The JBL One app helps make the best of the speakers technology as it provides controls as well as the ability to update the speakers firmware. The speaker packs a punch for its size. The output is rated at 90 watts and can get pretty loud. The sound is crisp, clear, well balanced with great bass. The speaker has two 1/4” front firing tweeters, one 5” front firing full range woofer and one 6” down firing bass radiator which helps give the speaker great bass response. This speaker is a definate keeper as it is packed with the latest features, sounds great, can get loud and looks great.

The authentics 200 is th least expensive out of the three that are available in this line. There is also a authentics 500 and an authentics 300 as well. Upon opening the box initially, it is packaged quite well, with the speaker being wrapped in a white felt. Felt super classy. The authentics 200 needs to be plugged into the mains, so it is not as portable as other Bluetooth speakers. It’s a little on the heavy side, weighing in at 6.9 pounds. This speaker is paired your typical way through your phones Bluetooth settings. It’s also operational through the JBL one app (not the orange regular jbl app). As soon as it powers up it makes this amazing sound. It’s quite satisfying. The set of controls, volume, treble, bass, favorite (heart) and Bluetooth on top of the unit are very straight forward. Simple and unique but quite functional. You can stream music wirelesslv via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth or use voice control to access Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. It has the ability to connect via AirPlay, which I found useful. You can also play music in multiple rooms and enjoy the automatic self-tuning that optimizes the sound for any room. On the back of the unit there is an aux in, usb-c and Ethernet. Overall this speaker is amazing! It sounds better than any other speaker I have owned in this price range. I absolutely love the simplistic yet functional look. If you’re not sure about buying this, go for it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Quick and easy pairing via Bluetooth made for a fast startup, and then song after song was incredible to listen to from a relatively portable speaker. The first thing noticed was the cool, retro vibe of the speaker - not as common anymore but a welcome addition to any room and much more subtle than many of today's speakers. Trying to test the full range, this speaker performed magnificently from classical music with piano solos, to guitar riffs in rock and metal, to room-shaking bass in rap. The volume, bass and treble controls on top of the speaker are easily tuned and have a great light feature which indicates the level (i.e. the higher either of these are turned, the more full the circle of light becomes). Playing drastically different styles of music allows the listener to easily hear why the product is so amazing: the three tweeters, three midrange woofers and large subwoofer create an immersive sound experience, no matter what is being played. Additionally, this speaker performs amazingly well when paired with a TV/entertainment center. When paired with Bluetooth to the streaming service, watching movies became a delight and provided rich, deep sound with stunningly clear audio for voices and sound effects. Aside from the music quality, the WiFi integration on the Authentics 500 allows for automated assistants to be readily available (also accessible via ethernet port in the rear of the unit). While the price of the Authentics 500 is near or higher than some similarly-sized speakers in the market, the look, quality and value of JBL continues to exceed expectations and this is no exception. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am biast. Lets be clear on this. When I got my hands on this, I was excited that JBL made an authentics line bluetooth speaker. How much better could it be? Well, this speaker kicks. Blare it as loud as it can go and it will not leave you sad. Soooo freaking clear. Not as punchy as my JBL Boombox 3, but this is not meant to be that animal. Don't get me wrong, it still hits. Clarity and detail are most definitely it's goals. And it does it. I love the seperate bass and treble knobs. The light up progression bars are sweet for knowing how you are cranking it. It's covered in some really high end feeling materials. You are not taking this to the beach. You could, but it would be for cocktails, caviar and I can't believe how pretensious this person sounds. Love the authentics grille. It's JBL's thing. And they did it well. Bluetooth pickup is fantastic. I can walk a good distance away and have many obsticles inbetween me and the speaker without any breakup. So it has that going. I wish it hit a little harder with the bass. But there is a bigger version that would probably take care of that issue. But it still hits hard. I want an 11. This is a 8.5, 9ish. No walls shaking, but such a complimentary punch.

It looks like nothing else I've ever owned, and I immediately cleared a display area for it in my kitchen, where another, smaller, smart speaker had previously resided. The real impression came, however, when I plugged it in and started playing some music. The dynamic range on this is truly impressive; the bass can be felt through the entire counter surface. There are separate knobs to adjust treble, bass, and volume, though the volume was easy to control using my phone as well. I first tested the bluetooth capabilities, which worked flawlessly and at a significant range, before installing the JBL+ app and following the setup instructions. Within about two minutes I had the Authentics 200 connected to my home's wifi network and authenticated for use as a smart speaker with the major smart-home 3rd parties...you know the ones. Now it's super easy to use the Authentics for everything from playlists to streaming radio, to setting timers or my kids getting quick answers to questions. All in all, a splendid addition to the home sound network.

At it's top volume, you have no distortion and even your neighbors across the street will be enjoying the quality of sound this speaker gives. At this point you don't need to read anymore and just buy this speaker but... it gets even better!! This is a wi-fi speaker meaning you can pair the JBL Authentics 500 with all of your other wi-fi enabled smart speakers in home! An absolute joy to shake your home and feel like you are front stage at your favorite band's concert!
