I bought this DVD Drive to go along with an ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW DS71T laptop which doesn't include an internal DVD drive. This DVD drive is barely the size of a DVD disk. It matches nicely with the laptop. It comes with a software disk and a USB splitter cable (you will need two USB ports available on your computer to use this drive). It is well constructed and functions beautifully. The included software is optional. This drive is plug and play, however, my laptop didn't come with Windows DVD Player software. No Problem... I downloaded a highly downloaded free DVD software suite and it works perfectly. It does what I bought it to do. It is not a blue-ray player though. If that is important to you, you'll need to pick another drive. 5 |

I use this drive as the Time Machine backup disk for my laptop running OS X Yosemite; it works nicely. With the drive on my desk, I can still hear the cooling fan, but I don't mind it. I think the device is well designed (easy-to-use and looks good), and it has a good warranty. 5 |

When you have a 4TB Mac laptop and want Time Machine backups that keep old versions of files and folders around, you need a backup drive bigger than 4TB. This 8TB drive, formatted with APFS and encrypted, does the trick. Old fashioned mechanical disk drives take forever for Time Machine backups. Since Time Machine runs hourly, it's nice having a drive that can backup everything quickly. This was an expensive solution, but it is so nice knowing I can revert to an old version and keep a lot of old versions of stuff around. The peace of mind is a big payoff. This may sound weird, but I mainly use my laptop at home, sitting on my couch with on my laptop - of all places, sitting on my lap. I just taped this drive to the lid and plugged it in to a TB port and it backs up while I work. Yes, it looks ugly as sin, but I mainly look at the front of my with the screen and keyboard. I don't sit staring at the laptop lid with an SSD taped to it. Besides, there's nothing prettier than a properly backed up disk. 5 |

I replaced an OEM HDD on a Windows 8 HP G7-2246nr laptop with this SSD using Macronium Reflect Free. Noticed improved speed right away. Old HDD was hot to touch when removed. Glad it's gone. Here is what I did. 1) Created system image of entire old HDD to additional external USB HDD using Windows 8 File Recovery tool just in case. 2) Purchased USB 3 to SATA cable. 3) Installed Reflect and viewed support page that explains how to use Reflect. IMPORTANT 4) Cloned all partitions of old HDD in the same order that they are listed under source disk (0) in Reflect. Since is was downsizing from 512 GB old HDD to 240 GB SDD, I paused after dragging C: into destination disk to resize it down to 197 GB and set the drive letter from Auto to C. 5) Added all subsequent partitions including D for recovery (25 GB). Finished Clone keeping all partitions at original size except for C drive. 5) Shut down laptop and swapped out the hard drives and rebooted. Windows 8 recognized the SSD and there was no need to go into EUFI. 5 |

Compact, USB powered. I have it set-up as a network drive plugged into an old laptop that's stationary now. All of our computers are backed up to this drive now. 5 |

No coasters due to the disks themselves. Had one disk out of about 100 fail, but it was the computers fault, not the disk's (the computer hiccup part way through). Given the high quality of the disks themselves, plus that they are hub printable, they are really not all that expensive. 5 |
