most, if not all, new laptops don't come with a dvd drive anymore so you're on your own if you need to view media on discs. this portable dvdrw drive from asus is extremely lightweight and about the size/dimensions of a music cd case, so you can easily fit it inside any backpack or computer case. regarding the functionality, i've been using it for over a month now and it hasn't had a single issue. easy to setup with the included wire and can be up and running within a minute or two. i'd highly recommend this drive, especially at this sub-$30 price point 5 |

This is my 3rd SSD. I think all laptops should ditch the spinning rust :) and boot from this. This 1TB replaced my DVD drive, so, my laptop is running on two SSD. The first SSD which boot the OS is showing it's age and slowing down. I might swap this 1TB to be the booting driver later. Windows 8.1 recognize it easily and I just had to format it, 64kb size for me. File (large) transfer at about 180 MB/sec, between 2 ssd. USB3 using Win8 driver to this 1TB can do 70MB/sec. If price was much lower, I would have gotten it sooner. Also, by now, I like to have a 2 or 3 TB. :) 5 |

I install Samsung SSD in all my client machines, as well as my personal ones. They have no moving parts, which makes them ideal for laptops that get moved and/or tossed around. Performance is stellar. Win7 and new can use the Magician software to enable RAPID mode (disk cache), which is ideal on battery powered laptops to ensure no data loss from a power outage. The PRO is more durable than the EVO series, and priced accordingly. PRO is for heavy use. Leave 5~10% of the disk as raw/unallocated for automatic wear leveling. 5 |
