I purchased one of these through work so I probably wont show up as a verified buyer, but I wanted to write a review to clear up some confusion. This StarTech enclosure is only compatible with B-key SATA-based drives. The specs here at B&H dont list this detail, but the specs on the manufacturers website do. Unfortunately for Rickey, this information probably would have prevented his 1-star review. See the attached screen shot of the relevant spec. As to my actual review, the unit has a sturdy aluminum housing which both protects the M.2 drive inside, and also helps conduct heat away. The speed potential is limited by the internal SATA interface (again, this is not compatible with PCI-based M.2 drives), but thats not to say it inst plenty fast. My only (slight) concern is the ventilation holes allowing dust to accumulate inside the housing over time, but not enough to deduct a star from my review. 5 |

I have two of these 12 Tb Reds mirrored in a Synology 423+ They have only been up for two weeks, but went through an 18 hour initialization and over a day and a half of file transfers with no problem so fingers crossed. They are running cool on the lowest setting. Anyone who complains about noise must have bat ears! I don't and the drives are three feet away. 5 |
