Electrical power spikes occur for many reasons and your sensitive electronics won't survive unless you have a quality surge suppressor. This thing is a beast. It's not so much a surge protector as it is a smallish power conditioner. It's hard to tell if you've never seen one, but it is about 3' long. If space is a premium and you don't need clean power, this may not be the droid you're looking for. If you can spare it, and aren't frightened by the price tag (which is entirely reasonable for what you're getting), then I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

I bought this for a second stereo system in my basement.  In addition to surge protection, I wanted a power conditioner, but didnt want to spend big bucks on an audiophile unit.  I was pleasantly surprised to find a noticeable improvement in sound quality with the Furman.
