We most certainly could not afford the $$for the 560mm f5.6, and we already have the 300mm f4 (a sweet lens). So, what could we do to extend our reach? Pentax just released the answer, the 1.4x rear converter. We tested the 1.4x at the annual Sandhill Crane migration in Kearney, Nebraska, using a K-3. It made a huge difference in our ability to capture the shot. Yes, we could have zoomed and cropped using shorter lenses. But my wife and I are firm believers that the best shots are always composed in the camera first. The less digital manipulation, the better. The results with this 1.4x rear converter have absolutely been worth the price. And the loss of one f-stop is highly acceptable, given the ASA capabilities of the Pentax cameras.Be sure you have one of the recommended Pentax cameras before you buy this, as the firmware for older cameras (e.g., K10D, K20D) cannot compensate for this lens. 5 |

The 1.4x HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converter AW when used with the FA* 4.5 300mm produces sharp images and the autofocus works, if at a slower speed. New life for old glass Thanks Ricoh-pentax 5 |

When my 1.4x Pentax Rear converter arrived I put it to the test right away. The camera I used was a Pentax KP, the Lens a Sigma 18-300mm First I shot the same object without the converter and then with the converter. Both images appeared the the same sharpness. Second I tried flowers with bumblebees. This means fast exposure times. Again I shot without the converter and afterwards with the converter. in order to get similar exposure times (approx. 1/1000sec) I needed to increase the ISO number. this in turn introduced some noise to the image which is very minor but noticeable when zooming in very close in post production and has to be expected, especially in the high ISO numbers i used (1600 and 3200). Overall this rear converter is worth its money and perhaps I should have purchased it much sooner. two thumbs up and five stars. 5 |

You might not think much of a rear lens cap, but they come in handy for color coding lenses and accessories like bellows, converter/extenders, etc. 5 |

This rear converter works exactly as advertised. I'm using it with all three of my current lenses. The greaat thing is I can now usually get away with one one or two lenses when traveling. The other GREAT benefit is purchasing through B&H with Live Humans, in the USA, that can quickly answer any questions. 5 |
