This HDD is fast. I tried to copy/past 5.4GB archive file from my LenovoThinkPad e550 (16GB RAM DDR3 / Intel core i7 5500 CPU @ 2.40 GH X 2 / HDD 1TB ext4 file system) to this WD 5TB My Passport HDD. Process needed 1 minute & 9 seconds. The same process needed 14 seconds when I repeat it with Sansung SSD SATA3 2.5 inch 870 EVO connected to my laptop externally via Orico SATA3 external enclosure. In both cases I connected externally located disk to built-in USB 3.0 port of my Lenovo. I think it is excellent speed for HDD with data transfer speed of 5Gib/sec to complete copy/past of 5.4GB file over 1 minute & 9 seconds. Combining this with it's size (5TB) it's price (109$) is cheep ! 5 |

I was using a homebrew Linux server for my Plex system. That machine died due to a power fluctution (looking at you First Energy). This was chosen as a replacement. Very much easier to manage, although not quite as versatile as a general prupose Linux system (then again NOTHING is as versatile). 5 |

For some reason, Linux is not listed as a compatible system. This device works out of the box without any issues on every Linux distro I tried it on (mainly Fedora and Ubuntu). 5 |

I used this to build a linux firewall server. The old server that I had was destroyed by a lightning strike. So far, the new system is doing the job. 5 |

I have been using Samsung 500gb SSDs as system drives for my z840 workstation, but recently gave the PNY a chance and am very pleased. I like having spare drives like this around as I keep one for Windows and another for Linux. I also clone my drives before doing any complicated updates or installs (especially since I am very inexperienced with Linux). The 500gb size is perfect size to hold my OS, since all of my media is saved to a 4xTB NVME M.2 RAID. I highly recommend PNY 500gb SATA SSD 5 |
