This 1TB Gold Anniversary Edition is another great hard drive from Western Digital.There are only two things that I do not particularly like about this drive.1.There are no rubber feet on the underside of the unit2.The USB cable is thicker and stiffer than the earlier modelsThese two combine to cause the drive to sometimes slide around when it's sitting on a smooth surface particularly when the USB cable is plugged into my MacBook Pro.Apart from those two minor complaints I really like this drive.1.This unit has so far performed flawlessly. 2.Compatible with both PC and Mac 3.USB 3.0/2.04.It's extremely fast and quiet5.Huge capacity6.Great price 7.Stays cool8.It looks awesome, has great form factor9.Contrary to what another reviewer has stated, this drive is extremely easy to reformat to the Mac platform, it took me all of 2 minutes10.Oh Yes, and there's Free Expedited Shipping, gotta love FES

I have this set up to a Mac Mini via the provided USB-C cable. Despite this being a mechanical drive, the data transfer rates are fast - ~240MB/s. I use this as my primary storage for photographs, videos, music, etc. I was concerned about the drive noise, while it's not silent like my Samsung T7 scratch disk, it's not as loud as others have stated. It's fine when in use for me, most of the time it's sleeping.

This is a great value-- 5TB will give me the room I need to back up files and archive. This is not the fastest drive but I wasn't looking for speed-- just cheap storage. I was also looking for reliability. This is a good brand. Compact, rugged, and highly visible. Compatible with MAC or Windows. Make sure you use a dedicated cable-- USB C to USB C or USB C to USB A-- no adapters. I tried a USB A adapter on a USB C cable and my IMAC did not see the drive-- not even in disk utility. A regular USB C to USB A cable did the trick. It did not mount directly-- I still had to go in to disk utility but there it was. It comes formatted in EX-FAT but I reformatted easily in to MAC Journal Extended. I was up and running in minutes. I also plugged it in to a Windows 10 laptop before the reformat, and it saw the drive right off. A great purchase and I'm happy with the drive. It's no speed demon, but that's not why I picked it up. I purchased this 3TB USB hard drive to backup my new MAC. The drive arrived in 2 days with free shipping. The drive was packed well and was in great condition. The drive is formatted for Mac and worked as soon as it was plugged in. The readme file on the drive explains other details and tips. I used the Mac app Time Machine to backup the Hard drive. No problems whatsoever. I like WD hard drives because they are very reliable and work properly right out of the box for both IOS and Windows.

Others may have noted this. There is now an SC-15 (USB-C to Lightning) cable in the box.

I use my 2017 iMac for music composition and recording. I wanted to connect a fast USB 3.0/Lightning hard drive to be online with the iMac all the time to use as a dedicated hard drive for music recording. The cable is flexible, and is very durable. It has a magnetic clip so that I can put it where I want and it will stay. It does charge my phone a little faster too.
