Mac Mini For Photo Editing

I read quite a bit about which make mini to purchase for photo editing. I have to say I am delighted with this mac. I am not a full time still photographer. I shoot with a Canon 5Dmk III in raw mode. This machine imports, opens and transfers files to PS very quickly. All in all in does everything I need very well.

If your a creator or a photo hobbist you should really look at the Mac mini M2. This powerful Mac makes completing heavy processing task extremely fast. Get projects done quickly and flawlessly with the capacity to handle most editing software effortlessly. Would recommend minimum 16 GB of ram for video editing.

I use it mainly for editing my photographs and taking care of everyday chores. This is my 2nd Mac Mini. I previously purchased the last generation with Intel chip. It processes intensive tasks involving the GPU much faster than the Intel based version did with practically no lag time, and offers faster read and write speeds to most disks. I have owned a lot of Macs since my first 512k back in 1985 so I didn't really need the AppleCare product but took it anyway. I'm not sorry I did because when I need to call them with a problem I can't or don't want to think or remember how to fix (for an issue I tackled years ago), they are there at anytime to remember for me. Would I recommend the Mac Mini? yep. I would also recommend B&H for their amazing quality of service and speedy order processing.

I have a Mac Mini that I use for some preliminary video editing that I take with me back and forth because I like the price point and I prefer a larger video display and a laptop provides (and are easily fungible almost anywhere). But sometimes I have to schlep a flat screen with me (either to a spot w/o a suitable monitor or on the live event to use with my ATEP HD Switcher. Taking it in the original shipping card board is just not cool - or reliable. This Gator Carry Tote is the PERFECT solution. Has enough protection for my comfort level, has ample pockets to store accessories, and the zipper system and velcro is no-nonsense. Afer all: it's a Gator bag. NOTE: Easily fits 19-24 flat screens (you do have to disassemble the stand base - duh, which is no biggie.

Add one of these to a 2019 Mac Mini and you'll have a pretty nice HD editing machine for under $1000. We are using systems like this to train student in NLE editing. Easily get speeds of over 800 Mbps when using true USB-C connections. Also includes USB C to A adapter cable for using these with older computers, but the speed decreases quite a bit when you do that. Very well built too, services a fall from 3-4 feet with ease.

I purchased the Mac Mini M2 Pro for video editing, as my 2017 Macbook Pro was getting a bit pokey for 4K, 10-bit footage. The new Mini has handled this job without a hiccup so far, and the speedy internal SSD and an external SSD I built to go with it have helped enormously. I'd originally been looking at the Mac Studio, but the less expensive but very punchy Mini made more sense for what I do. Love it.

This is my first foray into the world of Mac, but based on my experience with this Mac Mini, it likely won't be my last. For such a small package, this little computer packs in all the performance I need, and if anything, performs better than I expected. Startup is quick, apps open even quicker, and the whole system runs smoothly without any stutters. I haven't encountered any issues yet, the thing just works. I've mostly been using it for office tasks, web browsing, and photo editing. I don't do gaming or video editing, which are the main reasons why I didn't feel the need for anything more powerful.

This Mac mini is a great base to upgrade on. Tax, AppleCare, and everything for under $1,550. And added 3rd party RAM to 64 gigs!! Easy to do. Support 4K monitors out of the box! Great way to break into video editing, photo editing, and podcasting. When I need more processing power for editing I can upgrade the house with and external. Love it. Oh, and B&H can save you the tax too, just ask they’ll help you.
