Mac Os Video Editor

As a cynical/snarky video editor I was looking for a drive that would perform well for a (7) mulitcamera HD edit. This drive was all that and more. What really threw me was the fact that it's the size of a Snickers candy bar! Dang it's small! It blows my mind that something this diminutive could perform so well. It was up to the task. The source footage (several 78 gig files) was copied off a PC. I then connected it with the provided Thunderbolt III cable to my new Mac Mini (3.2gHz 6-Core/i7/32gigs RAM/1 TB SSD). The drive was instantly recognized (no PC/Mac format issues) and off I went to work. The Helix Dura enclosure got warm but never hot where I was concerned. To be cliear I intentionally got the Dura version because the chipset is more robust and didnt want to risk any speed issues. I'm glad I did. Great drive. Bite!

I had to switch from Mac to Windows for my new job. As a video editor I loved the flexibility the Magic Mouse provided with its trackpad. This is perfect for those Mac users who have to switch to Windows, or those who love to horizontal scroll and do video editing or graphic design. I was worried this was going to be too small but this fits well even with my big hands.

If you have a Mac make sure you select the For MAC version. I used the OS filter and selected Mac but the keyboard I got WORKS for Mac but wasn't the one 100% built for Mac. SO I returned that one and got this one that's 100% for Mac - It's great for home office work especially if you're doing Webex calls and video training. The volume wheel is VERY useful. The mute, play/pause, and sleep buttons just left of the volume wheel get used often as well. Set up was very, very easy. Plugged into USB - A hub and the laptop recognized it and all the functions mentioned above worked without any setup steps. would be again for sure!

Good drive, but if you are a Mac user, be sure to reformat the Drive to MAC OS Journaled. It used to be the case that ExFat was okay if you needed to share a drive between a Mac and a PC user. But with the newer OS updates, my ExFat drives no longer read the data in Final Cut Pro X. What a hassle! I have to buy another one of these just to use it as a transfer tool so I can re-format my ExFat drives. That takes a lot of time and money. Hope that helps someone out there NOT to make the mistake I made.

I'm a professional editor waiting to update my aging 2008 Mac Pro. Though incredibly expensive, I saw how the new Mac Pro was optimized to work with FCP X and knew it would work with my workflow. Being part of my livelihood, the purchase was deemed by me to be worth it. It is incredibly much smaller and lighter (which when I have to travel to location is greatly appreciated), and quieter. In my office where there are hard drives whirring, that is a welcome respite. As Apple has designed the new Mac Pro as the hub, this purchase may require additional considerations such as having to buy external storage such as USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt drives, a PCIe chassis (for those with cards needed for video ingesting like the RED Rocket card or AJA cards), an e-SATA Thunderbolt hub, a DVD / Blu-Ray burner, etc. It can be a bit of a wire jungle behind the computer but that was always the case with me and my last Mac Pro. It is worthy purchase for me, but I realize that if I did less processor intensive tasks like word processing, e-mail, internet surfing, media consumption, etc. I would definitely not find this worth the price and just opt for the excellent iMac series for far less. However, if you're a video editor, 3D artist, serious photographer or anyone who has to render images quickly and efficiently, then I would seriously give this a strong consideration. Personally, I'm loving it. One thing I do wish the Mac Pro came with was bigger internal storage (I got the 1TB internal SSD) as I had to take my rather large iTunes library and put it on a 2TB external USB 3.0 drive, but maybe one day someone will release larger capacity SSDs.
