Macbook Pro Thunderbolt 3 Charge Prong

I use it to hook up my thunderbolt monitors to my 2016 MacBook Pro.

For my new MacBook Pro M1, I first tried purchasing Caldigit's new Element Thunderbolt 4 hub. It was nothing but an endless kernel panic with the M1 chip. Caldigit implied that was Apple's fault for their implementation of Thunderbolt 4 ports, but I didn't let them make me stick around long enough to sort out who's fault it was. I returned it, and bought this OWC one and it's been SO much better! No panics yet, sleep works fine, everything returns from sleep (whereas Caldigit's would consider my Pegasus2 RAID an erroneous disconnection everytime it slept), and it's actually really nice having SPDIF (digital) audio out, ethernet, and the card readers. I wish this had one more thunderbolt port out, but then again, I could still daisy chain a couple of my thunderbolt devices no problem. So far so great for this OWC 14-port T3 dock.

I use this adapter in my new Macbook pro to connect a external storage that is a old Thunderbolt.

When I purchased my MacBook Pro 2016 model from B&H a review indicated that they recommended a HyperDrive Hub. I took their advice and I should add that is almost a necessity. I use USB.3 mouse and a USB.3 external portable hard drive and there are no USB.3 ports on the MacBook Pro 2016. The other 5 ports are great as well. Best decision I made.

I'm using this on a new Macbook pro, it's great to be able to use the older usb ports and still have the newer ports. Wish it had the older thunderbolt 2, but understand that interface is a bit more complicated.

I'm in the process of a big photo archival project that involves moving images from two older MacPros with old USB2 and USB3 drives to a MacBook Pro 16inch M1 Pro based system. The write speed to the Pro-G40 from the older USB 2/3 is slow as expected. But the transfer with the Pro-G40 to a OWC Thunderbolt 3 Gemini drive array via the new MacBook Pro Thunderbolt 4 is blazing fast. Sometimes four times faster. The drive will be become part of my MacBook Pro work flow when the archival project is over. It allows full use of the Thunderbolt 3/4 SSD to SSD transfer rates with the 2021 MacBook Pro 16 inch. It is small, fast, and tough.
