I am 9 months with my first DSLR. I am not a pro. This Rokinon 85mm is Manual and has turned out to be a teacher in a lens. Solid construction and materials. Full manual and Full manual aperture range of 1.4 - 22 I have the POWER!!! The review in photography magazine was exact. I cannot stop taking pictures. Finally, something for my left hand to do while composing a shot. $60.00 in savings from buying the Bower 85mm (exact same maker). Develop the real photographer within yourself. The battery is for an older calculator. Back of the calculator indicated a different battery. After opening the calculator took the old battery out and the new one from B&H in it's place. Simple fix.

Build quality on this lens is superb, nice metal construction with manual and zoom rings that feel buttery smooth. The aperture ring is also improved from previous Fujinon lenses. The new design is much firmer and feels solid when it clicks into place. The weather resistance is a plus since I live in a very damp climate. Image quality is what i have come to expect from fuji, excellent. Images are Tac sharp with pleasing out of focus rendering when shot wide open. This makes for very lovely portraits. Low light performance is mediocre, but I knew that going in, and was not an issue for me. Autofocus when mounted on the XT-2 is down right outstanding. Take the time to learn how to use your auto focus system and this lens will perform beautifully for you. I debated for weeks between this and the 50-140, and while I still plan on purchasing the 50-140 I am glad I purchased this lens first. Highly Recommended

The first thing I noticed was the all metal construction. It was cold to the touch since the box had been sitting outside. Mounted it to my A7 and started clicking away. Manual focus ring has a super long throw and it is accurate . The aperture ring could use a more definitive click, but it is still adequate. As for ease of use, it takes some getting used to since I mainly use autofocus. Manual focusing at apertures 2.8 and larger is a bit challenging even with focus peaking and focus zoom, but it is doable with patience and practice. The few images I initially took were nice straight out of the camera. It does have that “ethereal glow” at larger apertures and it’s quite sharp at smaller f stops. Overall I am happy and cannot wait to shoot more with this lens.
