I tried another brand of drive on my brand new iMac computer and it didn't fair so well. Might have just been a bad drive or whatever. Compared to the Mercury Pro though ... no contest. Do NOT hesitate to get this drive. This drive is AWESOME. Worth every penny. 5 |

First of all: I am a retired old guy with years of computer industry experience. What I have digitized: files; digital photos; music is about 10 TB worth of data. My preference is to have data physically under my control because I don't trust security in the cloud and I don't want to worry about upload download times given my awful local monopoly internet provider. Suffice it to say, Back Up is fairly major deity in my pantheon. This is my second Mercury Elite Drive -- the previous was 14TB. My past is littered with WD, Seagate and La Cie drives, none of which seem to make it past three years of use, few make it past 2. Two years ago I tried Mercury: Plus: more reliable than the competition (big plus) and: an industrial strength USB connector on the drive, not the flimsy thing the competitors use Negative: Noisy -- especially as a music server. But for home use and control of one's information -- the best on the market 5 |

Monitors last a lot longer than a computer, but new computers don't have a VGA input ... this works fine with my old monitor, so all in all it's a great deal. 5 |
