Microsoft Surface Pro As Drawing Tablet

Very nice pen, great for drawing, or use instead of my fat finger when using my Surface Pro as a tablet, and the magnet attachment feature to the Surface Pro 6 is very convenient. Pricey but excellent! 5 |

I do not have a Microsoft Surface and I am using the dial on a regular PC. I am using it as a volume control, to scroll, and also to zoom when using a drawing tablet. So far so good. I love the feeling I get when using it and how cool it looks. 5 |

I have used several types of laptop computers, but Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is more than I expected :) 5 |

I‘m a newbie with the tablet, so it was especially difficult for me getting used to the slick surface... with the Paperlike it’s nearly as drawing on paper. Thanks a lot, great product! 5 |

This is my 2nd Wacom drawing tablet. I bought a CTL480 last year to use for whiteboarding with remote workers, and since that was discontinued I got the CTL490 recently. With the right software (I use Smooth Draw, which is free), both work very well for this purpose. I spend many hours with each, and the main difference seems to be the CTL480 has a smoother feel of nib on writing surface, which is better for writing words fast, and the CTL490 has a bit more scratchiness, which works better for true drawing & sketching. The CTL480 is actually a little too slippery for precision drawing. I like the slightly heavier and wider circumference of the CTL480 stylus better, but the 490 one works fine. I mapped the 152x95 mm drawing surface to 1728x1080 pixels (rather than using the default mapping) because this matches the aspect ratios, making natural hand motions on the tablet match what shows up on the screen. It's not quite as good as writing with your favorite pen or pencil or paper, but it's very good, and I like it better than writing directly on the screen of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and 4. Those felt a little too slick for me, and if you're drawing the feel is quite important. 5 |

Drawing on it feels much more natural than drawing on glass surface. 5 |

I wanted a drawing tablet/laptop and the iPad Pro 11 is perfect. 5 |

In my opinion, that's the best option for tablet PC available right now! * Silent - where is the cooler?! * Light and portable - even the complete kit (Surface, cover and the pen) is still incredibly easy to manage and carry in a small backpack or purse. * great quality material - it feels solid. Even the type cover seems solid (I am still getting used to the cover, but I am trying!). * relatively powerful - you get what you pay: it is fast to start Windows, run smooth medium-end software. High-end tools like Visual Studio and database development studios could perform better in a better spec notebook, but it's very easy to succumb to its power-portability rate. * comfortable keyboard - I am still trying to understand how such a small and thin keyboard is so comfortable... * finally a USB-C! - I have a Surface Pro 6 and this Pro 7 is a minor improvement. The battery and processor are slightly better compared to Pro 6, but the only item that I am really happy to upgrade is the new port! Microsoft please pay me to omit this! * The SSD is still slow since the early Surface Pros comparing with the competition... Why Microsoft?! * The battery only survives +5 hours if you decrease the processor power to microwave level. A medium to high workload finishes the battery in less than 2 hours. Tips: * I bought the pen, but I rarely use it. Despite that, the pen is very comfortable, runs smoothly in the glass and is very useful to control presentations. Of course, it's great for drawing. * I suggest the Surface Dock to optimizes your work. Just plug to add 4 USB ports, ethernet gigabit port, display port (even though it is a mini DP...) and audio output to your Surface. All that with embedded power supply, maintaining your power adapter on your backpack. * Buy a Microsoft Display Adapter! It is simply a MUST because wireless video transmission liberates you from wires! 5 |
