Mirrorless Camera Overheating In The Heat

You can definitely feel the new GRIII heat.  It is normal, but why take a chance of overheating with aftermarket batteries?

This is my second Slide lite. I shoot mirrorless and this strap is perfect. I loved my first strap and then, in the AZ heat, the strap got "gummy." A quick email to Peak Design with my warranty information and it was replaced. Love their products and customer service.

Best hybrid camera. Period. Bought this camera about a year ago, it is unreal. I do mostly food photography and videography. The MP count is perfect, great fast shutter for stop motions. Video quality is unreal, the oversampled 7k to 4k is butter. The 60 fps cropped is never really an issue for me, I actually like shots tighter most the time! Even the 120 fps in HD is more than enough for any social media application. Auto focus is crazy! Too many features to list, but it truly makes this the best camera at that price point. Now the big thing I was scared of was overheating. Never ran into this issue. Granted I don't record 60 FPS long format videos. I shoot mostly shorter clips in 60 FPS. But being in a hot kitchen, direct sunlight this camera is a beast. When I am in between scenes and I feel the camera getting hot I either switch to taking photos or shut the camera off and pop open all the ports to get it cooled out. I don't think I will ever run into overheating issues, but if I do I will just start building my rig up with heat sinks + external batteries. On top of that with all of Sony's insane releases the past 12 months, I'm still going for this camera as my hybrid go to any day. I often take still frames from my video to use as photo content, see the peach image attached. I decided to go with Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8, very satisfied with that as well. Can't wait to use other lenses to really max this camera out.

I had it with overheating SanDisk ExtremePRO CFexpress cards my Z8's. 4K /60FPS 10bit would set off card and camera alarms, yellow, to red, to shutdown. Sometimes after 20 minutes. Tried this DELKIN as a test. The overheating problem is resolved. Ran 10 tests each for 1 hour continuous, back to back. The camera will show hot card alarm but never get Camera hot alarms.

Of course, if you’re considering this camera you already know all the reasons why. I haven’t been shooting with it too long yet, but as long as it does everything it says it will do (Without Overheating) then it’s the dream Sony 7 series camera for video. Only time will tell on the overheating (especially those Texas summers!)
