Model 2 Emulator Dip Switch

This worked pretty well right away, only complaint is that the dip switch diagram was less helpful than I would have liked.

Works really good after you figure out the dip switch map. It’s a little tough.

I ordered the up down cross converter. I adjusted the dip switch for 1080 60 & hooked everything up and BOOM! It works. I can now use my laptop in my presentations & productions! Apparently, the old days of "adjustability" with analog- are gone. With digital, it's either working or no, not working. This converter helps with the "close but no cigar" moments - after you check & re-check and it still doesn't cooperate. I recommend that all parties take a hard look at the features, advantages, & benefits of the BMD line of tools & understand the how & why they were created.

We recently upgraded our church video system to HD. New cameras, switcher, projectors, network and displays We needed a way to embed audio from our main audio console into the network which feeds 20 displays in rooms and lobby locations. This little box was the problem solver. Took it out of the box, plugged it in between the switcher output and the first splitter, and we had clean audio at all locations. I did have to call Blackmagic support regarding DIP switch settings. All the diagrams show the switches in the UP position for ON and in the DOWN position for OFF. However, the actual DIP switch is the reverse of that. However, in our case, we didn't have to make any switch settings, it worked out of the box.

This converter is perfect for my use in extracting audio separately from a camera's SDI output. That way I'm able to send the audio to a mixer for control, as sometimes a live camera in the field has both a shotgun mic and a wireless mic on its inputs. The converter has a side panel DIP switch assembly that allows you to select the extraction function you need, and the bottom panel on this converter shows you various DIP settings -- BUT nothing was there that made it function for me (specifically using DIP Switch 8). I strongly suggest you download the PDF manual (available here on the B&H page for this product under the heading, Guides & Manuals). Go to page 53 and read all about the DIP Switch Settings. Again, you might need to turn Switch 8 off in order for the converter to do the job. Once you get the audio output you need I think you'll be impressed. It is absolutely noiseless (well, unless you have a noisy mic).

The Blackmagic video switcher can be quite picky about the input resolutions and frame rates so this was our solution. Although we only just received this unit so far it has been very simple to take a laptop VGA signal and scale it to a 1080p SDI for the Blackmagic. Perfect for our needs. The unit is very robust looking, with resolutions easily controlled by dip switch. It is a little bit of a nuisance to have to look at the bottom of the unit to see the dip switch settings, but if that's all I have to complain about then its pretty good!!!!

After my Canon remote switch took a dip in a tide pool, I knew that a new one would be required. After talking with my work shop instructor and reading the reviews, I would buy Vello model. At about a third of the cost, why not. It works just as well, and it somewhat larger, which feels good in my hand. I'm planning on buying another before heading back to the coast, for having a spare that is affordable.

We are using this to convert from HDMI to both SDI and HDMI outputs. The dip switch settings are much easier to use than the similar Blackmagic model.

This is the M.2 GEN 3 model that ranks 1st in performance by Userbenchmark for what it's worth ..... and in over 15 years now, B&H has never disappointed me.
