Motorola Radio With 70 Mile Range

The Motorola CLS - 1110 is a fine handheld radio. It has decent range and can be programmed so as not to interfere with other radio frequencies. More than the radio, however, I was totally sold on the customer service I got from B&H. It was as good as I could have imagined leaving no room to ask for more. Thanks- 5 |

I had to learn a whole new vocabulary to understand the implications of the different specifications; once I received it, I needed to read the manual to figure out the various menu options and how to make the changes. I have a copy of the manual downloaded to my phone for easy reference! I liked that the radios have rechargeable batteries and a charging base, both via USB. with the option to use 3 AAA batteries in a pinch. They charged quickly and I found the battery life was quite long on stand-by. They have long-range capability with high and low power settings, though you need ideal conditions to maximize this. I got at least a mile of coverage with trees and other obstructions. I loved that I can get weather alerts as well as weather forecasts; this can be more reliable than using my cell phone when I'm out in the woods or ponds. Real life: It worked well over a mile with a combination of lake and trees. On a recent camping trip, I arrived before others and went off to explore, so I left a radio at camp and asked them to radio me when they arrived. We used the radio to keep in touch while hiking and kayaking. Messages are transmitted clearly and easily. I didn't fully test the full-range, but am very pleased with this. 5 |

Haven’t had time to really stretch them out. But probably about a mile or so and seem to work great. Also ordered Motorola T465. They can communicate with each other. Plan on putting them both to the test to see who wins. So far. Happy with both. 5 |

Great little radios, so far. Good range relative to similar Motorola Talkabouts. 5 |

The CLS-1110 2-way radio by Motorola is small, lightweight and easily accessible for my assisted living staff. If only there was a way to eliminate the protruding antenna (can easily get in the way), this would be the world's most perfect unit! 5 |

Radio's seem to be well made. We have tried the radios around the neighborhood and they work very well. Went testing, we were 1/4 to 1/2 mile apart and the reception was good. 5 |

I've been testing this little radio in an urban setting and have been able to communicate at 1 mile clearly between two units on the ground with houses everywhere around me. They are cool little radios. They feel tough and rugged. To get the full functionality you need the programming cable to make adjustments to settings and buttons and of course change frequencies to match other radios. Lots of settings to enable or disable like roger beep, emergency button, scan, squelch, etc. When you change the channel it says the channel name out loud over the speaker. It also tells you (out loud) when the batteries are low. These are business radios but I've taken them on a few hikes with friends. I'm getting way over a mile in the forest clearly. I'm sure you could easily go to 2 miles without hills in between. Longer with zero obstructions. This is a 5 watt radio. Only one suggestion to Midland. Make this radio in a GMRS/FRS version so the outdoor guys can buy a full 5 watt radio for play too! Not just for work. Highly recommended. 5 |

This replaced and older 2nd hop for our last mile internet service via 5GHz point-to-point. With LOS issues we have to pony off our neighbors roof to get a clear shot for our primary ISP connection. I set them up in the living room on some makeshift stands 12' apart. Created one as access point on our homes end, the other radio at the neighbors IP closet. The radio on that end is clamped to a shelf and beaming right through the wall without issue. We're about 600' line of sight and getting speeds in excess of 300mbs which is way past saturation on internet traffic and lots of headroom for rain and snowfade at 6gigs. Really a nicely made, well constructed and easy to set-up solution. We're using DHCP from our ISP's radio but many options for advanced configs and users. I'm convinced I'd get decent speeds at a mile or more using NanoBeams with clean line of sight! 5 |

This mile performed beyond my expectations considering the price range. Excellent investment on a budget! 5 |
