Mxl Mics 440 Condenser Microphone

This microphone has gotten me through so much learning. When I first started recording I was using an Avid Recording Studio mixer with only a single XLR input. So one microphone. (Until I figured out how to run another mic through the guitar jack.) I got the MXL 990 and I feel like I can keep recording with it for a long time. For starters, it's pretty durable. I haven't spiked it against the ground but it's taken some falls and still ticks. As for quality? There's definitely better mics out there. Better tone, pickup, all sorts of things. But I'd be lying if I didn't say this is a great mic to take around the block. While I'm not completely green, I'm at least blue-green. So anything fancier would be completely wasted on me. And all I really want is for the voice to be clear and warm. I'm recording a podcast with myself and a single guest. No instruments. Nothing fancy. And honestly: this mic does everything I want without fighting me too hard. I would definitely point it right and try to insulate yourself a bit. But the difference between this and my Shure SM58 is huge. I've since switched to a Zoom H6 for my mixer (whew). Now I can get more people in on my records if I need to. But when I had the chance to get different mics I went in for 3 more MXL 990s. That's how reliable they are. I may graduate from them someday, but for what I need to do and where I'm at, they're perfect. 5 |

Perfect for any small condenser microphone. I have a pair of Busman BSC 1 mics & they fit perfectly ! 5 |

I bought this pop filter to go with my MXL 870 condenser mic and It works perfectly. Fits the mic nicely and functions as a pop filter should. The construction seems quite solid as well. Very happy with the buy. 5 |

The UB-440 Professional USB Microphone by Senal is truly the best USB desktop microphone I have ever used. I have two, one for each work station used for animation and video production. The voice quality is superb. 5 |

I read the reviews and recommendations on the legendary Sure SM58, but didn't really need to buy another mic. I have an AKG, an MXL and a Samson at home, and I work with the Sennheiser 421, EV RE-20 and Heil mics at work. But I saw the B & H price on this, and decided to give it a whirl. WOW.. seriously? Less than $35 for a mic of this quality? Unbelievably good deal! This little Sure SM48 sounds so good, crisp, clean.. blows the Heil and the EV RE-20 out of the water, even sounds better than the Sennheiser! I do a slight EQ contour to shift the bass energy a little lower, with a -1.5db dip @ 378Hz, and a 2db bump around 90 Hz, a little bump at 900 for presence.. and this sounds perfect every time! I don't have to wrestle with that bass tip-up that you always get with the condensers like the AKG and the MXL. For pure voice stuff, this one is a gem. I'll grab it first now before messing with the other mics.. this is a more direct line to getting a great result without the intermediate adjustment stops the other mics need. The RE-20 is retired now. I won't even use it with the SM48 to choose from. I use this for VO work, mostly with commercial spots at a major market radio station. Totally recommend this mic. At this price? A no brainer! Bargain of the century. 5 |

Very useful and great for MXL mogami mics. Just enough screen, not too much not too little. Good material otherwise. 5 |

I really like this mic. I had been using the Omni directional mics built into my Tascam D05 when recording a musical group in a large sanctuary. The reverberation is expected but the all directional mics pic it up and muddies the music. When I connect the MKE 440 which has two directional mics, the music is much clearer in that a great deal of the reverberation is reduced. I doubt I could tell much difference if I use the MKE 440 a few feet in front of a subject but for recording anything in a large room, the MKE will excel 5 |
