My Samsung Laptop Usb Ports Are Not Working

I needed a laptop for the transfer of very large video files in the field. My previous MacBook was taking way too long due to older usb ports. I purchased a thunderbolt / usb 3 card reader from B&H. MacBooks have multiple usb c ports but they are expensive and this system was mainly for the file transfer of Red r3.d files. I’m usually shooting at 7 or 8K resolution. My office editing system is a large HP workstation so a pc makes more sense to me. The problem is finding a laptop with multiple thunderbolt ports. The B&H representative led me right to the HP Envy. It has dual thunderbolt 3 / usb c ports and an i7 processor. It was on sale and I was actually surprised by the price. B&H shipped it and I had it the next morning. My first test was the transfer of 548GB of footage from the new mini mag card reader to a usb c ssd. I was impressed that it took only 13 minutes. That the same speed as my workstation using thunderbolt 3 / usb c ports. That solved my in the field file transfer time problem. As an added bonus I was able to play back Red 8K footage at 1/4 resolution using the Cine X Pro software. It looks great on the 17 inch screen. Setup was easy. B&H was great.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I often unplug my laptop from my desk. I have a couple USB ports, a HDMI , Power, wired USB mouse and USB printer, that I utilize on my laptop. Each time I want to move my laptop to another area of my home, I have to unplug everything. At some point I fear that the ports will wear out as I do this often. I got this Thunderbird 4 Dock so I could plug each of my devices into it and only have to unplug 2 cables. My power and Lightning cable. My laptop doesn't charge via the USB C port. But that is ok. My laptop is also only wifi. No ethernet built in. I took all the devices that I plug into my laptop and plug them into my dock. I even plug in the ethernet from my wall. Everything works great! All devices were recognized. There is no lag or noticeable issues when I have all the devices running. The dock is very cool looking too. I have used docks where I push my laptop down on it. I never was a fan of those. I enjoy using the USB C connector. So much more simple. My router is across the house. So my internet has been flaky. Now that I use the ethernet in the dock, it is much more stable and much faster. I am a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (ham). I feared that this device would cause interference. I ran some tests with it and there is zero interference from this device. I am very pleased with this dock.

My laptop has a USB and two C ports and this works with both very well. It would be great if the caps were retractable, but that's a minor quibble. It's very compact and that's a plus.

My laptop has 2 USB-C ports, this dock allows me to use my older pc accessories and charge the laptop when needed. The form raises the computer to a more comfortable typing position.

I use this on my laptop to multiply my USB ports. It's very helpful. I have no complaints so far.

My laptop had a 2TB Samsung EVO 970 plus system drive and I bought this WD black to put in a USB enclosure. But before I did, I ran Crystal Disk Mark on the Samsung, cloned the system to this drive and ran it again on this drive. My laptop is only PCI 3 so I wasn't expecting the stated performance, and no surprise it didn't make those numbers. But it did perform a little better than the Samsung and ran a bit cooler also. So I kept this WD black as the system drive and wiped the Samsung and put that one in the USB enclosure. Now it's a few weeks later and so far so good.

My imac does have enough usb ports and other hubs I tried do not work.

My Imac just didn't have enough USB ports and this did the trick.

Adds USB ports to a port-challenged laptop...works well.

Due to less USB ports on my laptop, I needed to make use of the type C USB. This works perfectly.
