This unit packs a punch considering its size and weight. It powered everything we threw at it, even our coffee machine, one at the time of course. 5 |

First, let me say that this lens is all they say it is. It has pixie dust qualities and it produces images that were as magical as I expected. The reason I returned it was I already own a SMC DA* 50-135mm, which is also a pixie dust lens, and I can get the same focal length within its range. I was tempted to keep the 77mm because it is small and so much easier to carry, but it is an expensive luxury. Yes, the 50-135mm is a big, heavy lens, but I just couldn't justify the 77mm price. I bought the 77mm just to see if it had any better image qualities than the 50-135mm, but the differences were not noticeable. So, if you want a fixed focal length, go with the 77mm, but if you want flexibility, with the same kind of image magic, go with the 50-135mm. 5 |

My old Pentax DA* 16-50mm, which I had bought used, broke again. I really liked it when it worked well, but it is known to develop issues. Instead of getting it serviced again, I wanted to get something different. I considered these three: - Pentax DA 16-85mm, which is something of a workhorse. I am after magic pixie dust, and reliability though. This one has reliability, but I am not sure it has got the magic pixie dust. - The new HD Pentax DA* 16-50mm seems to be well-received, with all reliability issues of the older version fixed. But it is big, bulky, and expensive. - This one, the Pentax DA 20-40mm, is something of an oddity in terms of reach. It is described as a stack of primes, and that got my attention. I also considered the 17-50mm f/2.8 lenses from Sigma and Tamaron, although very briefly, and decided that weather resistance is important to me. After much deliberation, I ended up buying this lens. I am glad I did. This is a really handsome lens. It is not big or heavy. And it actually seems to have that magic pixie dust quality of some prime lenses, although it is a zoom! I like the pictures I've managed to take so far. I am looking forward to taking it somewhere nice. 5 |

If you know of this lens, you know what quality you are getting. It has pixie dust analog era rendering, it’s sharp, small and a brilliant design. If you want that famous Pentax limited look, its all here. 5 |
