I use this battery as a back-up to my Nikon battery EN-EL4a rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery Pack. I always use my original Nikon battery but if I am out in the field and my Nikon battery goes down after many shots, I then switch to the the Watson EN-EL4A Lithium-Ion Battery Pack as my back-up until I can re-charge the Nikon battery again at home. I find it's more economical using it that way since there is such a big price difference between the Nikon Battery and the Watson Battery. However the Watson battery is a very good battery and reliable in every way.

In the past I would only use Nikon flashes, but I was interested in trying out the first generation version of this flash to see how the lithium battery performed. After only one job with it I was hooked. It is so much better that messing with multiple sets of rechargeable AAs. The TTL is not as good as the Nikon flash, but I almost always use manual so that is not a big deal. What I love about this version is the new simplified menu and the little LED modeling light on the front. As a Nikon Z6ii user this comes in handy when the light is getting dark.

This battery holder fits the Nikon EN-EL15 lithium battery perfectly and has a built-in loop designed so a small strap can be passed through it ensuring a 100% positive mount (e.g. the lower portion of a backpack strap). Note that this also means that you will need to find an alternate method for attaching (e.g. Velcro strap) if you plan to mount to a looped handle or thicker object. Another note: the plastic cap that comes with the EN-EL15 will not fit into this holder.

I think the Nikon EN-EL18d Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery is likely to attain legendary status before long. I've shot over 6000 frames in a single day with this battery and never worried about switching out for a fresh battery. I bought this as a back-up battery for my Z9. While it might be overkill to buy a 2nd battery for some, I know that it gives me the spare battery I need while I have the other one on the battery charger. When I bought this, there weren't any 3rd party batteries yet available for the Z9, but I've learned to trust Nikon batteries and would not be interested in saving some money with a possibly less-well engineered battery.

I had no complaints with v.1 but I can notice a (very small) improvement in the finish of v.2. It’s now less rugged which makes the image a little less “blurry”
