Although I have different branded camera bodies (Nikon, Pentax, Fuji), Canon is my main workhorse and so I have accumulated all sorts of accessories over the years (tilt-shift lens, right-angle viewer, timer control, etc) but I never tried the 2x EF Extenders before. I attribute that to my bad experience with a third party teleconverter many years ago. Having read the reviews here, I decided to dive in and get myself one, convinced that version III would have ironed out all the bugs. I'm glad I did! Currently my travel lenses include the 70-200 f/2.8 II and 100-400mm, which gave me a backache during those long treks. With this TC, I could leave my 100-400mm at home and still have the same reach, not sacrificing too much f-stop, continue to use the auto-focus, and still preserve the amazing IQ of the 70-200/2.8! The slightly slower auto-focus and 10% degradation in IQ trade-offs are worth it! The only gripe I have is that the lens collar of my 70-200/2.8 no longer balances on the tripod when this is fixed to my 1D4. But the Acratech (and any other high-quality) ballhead handled it well! 5 |
