This tripod will be great for outdoor macro photography but right now I have my lume cube on it for indoor macro lighting. A little stiff at first but works great. 5 |

This is my second cube. I have been using the first one since 2014. It's an excellent amplifier for small parties and outdoor events where there is no electric. I added the second cube because I am performing for bigger crowds. 5 |

I'll preface this by saying I already own the Arca-Swiss Cube. Iv'e had the Cube for 5+ years now and use it on all my commercial studio shoots. Love it! But I needed/wanted a head that was appropriate for a lighterweight tripod and outdoor use. I'd been using the RRS BH55 ball head for over a decade, and had a lightbulb moment that ball heads actually aren't that great. Using a ball head outdoors to compose product shots was frustrating for so long it never occurred to me to look for an outdoor-alternative to the Cube that I love. Geared heads are amazing. With a ball head, you get the shot all set up, looking at this and that, then you realize the horizon is off a smidge... start all over again. Not with a geared head! Incremental composition adjustments without losing your place. The d4 definitely takes some getting used to, coming from the Cube. The controls are laid out differently, and the locking knobs are a concept not found on the Cube. I've only had the d4 out for a couple of shoots so far, but the quality and precision are exactly what you'd expect from a $1k+ head. 5 |
