Physics Of A Camera Stabilizer

If this falls over then you're trying to do something that defies physics.

I use a NikonD200 with a Neoprene neck strap and the neoprene, flexible Stabilizer Strap (Op/Tech USA) around my chest when camera is not in use. The stabilizer precents the camera swaying when I am running, climbing, or otherwise active, even getting out of crowded vehicles. The stbilizer prevents the strap from impacting anything like branches, rock walls, furniture, or the person in the seat ahead of me. It permits the camera to instantly slip out of the stabilizer, leaving the strap in position./ The strap length is adjustable to fit over a bulky jacket or vest, and the snap-on ends make it easy to fit.The central lens opening can be enlarged to fit extremely wide diameter lenses. I canot imagine how it could be improved.

I have 3 of these on different plates and such to keep from having to remove the camera from the stabilizer, they are indispensable.

It’s like you’re there. The physics are amazing. The game play is fun.

So far so good. I'm using this with a heavy camera (Panasonic DVX200). I had trouble at first because I was mounting this slider on top of a video head (and then another video head, Manfrotto 502, between the slider and the camera). The torque caused by this heavy load extended so far off-center was too much for the bottom head to handle. This caused a bowing effect, where the slider would droop at each extreme. I then got a half ball attachment for my tripod (Manfrotto 520BALL on a Manfrotto 546B tripod), and that improved things dramatically! That said, with such a heavy load on the slider, there is still a slight bowing when I move the camera rig to the far extremes. The slider handles the weight, but physics is physics. I doubt any center-supported slider can handle that much weight almost 15 away from the center without some degree of flexing. Still, if I apply a little upward support at the end of the slider as my camera approaches it, I can get very nice results. If your camera is lighter and you use a lighter (or no) head on top of the slider, you may not need any extra support for a nicely level camera movement. Please be realistic about the physics involved here. This slider allows you to move the camera a significant distance off center. This can cause the tripod to tip or flex no matter how solid the slider itself is. If you have a heavy camera, the slider does a very good job, but you still may need to take precautions and possibly counter-balance the rig. You will need a very sturdy tripod if you're using a heavy rig! I considered buying the Edelkrone slider, which works similar to this one. I have not compared them side-by-side, but the ES50 seems to give all the same benefits at a much lower price. I'd love to hear experiences others have had with the Edelkrone using a heavy (10+ lbs) camera rig extended 15 off center (29 total slide). Any drooping at the extremes? It's pretty minor with the ES50, but does exist.

The manual for these things often require a degree in physics. This sheet is sturdy and well though out. You can put it in your camera bag. Easy to reference information on the go.

Need these with the stabilizer. Makes the camera easier to balance

This is a very good camera stabilizer product but needs a support like the Eroz X1.
