The Gitzo Gimbal fluid head looks very impressive and very large. In reality it is not physically larger than other heavy duty gimbal heads. The head includes a Gitzo tool-less mounting plate that has two 1/4" and one 3/8" mounting screws - perfect for the foot of my 600mm f/4 lens. There is a safety pin that needs to be removed before using a mounting plate. It blocked both my Wimberley plate and the Gitzo plate that comes with the gimbal head - go figure. There is a single locking lever to release to adjust the height of the mounting plate depending upon the size of the lens being used. The pan bar is held in place by a screw on a lever so it is quick to insert or to remove. There is a fair amount of resistance when tilting or panning but with either the use of the pan bar or having a large lens mounted on the head the resistance seems quite normal and provides the perfect amount of resistance. The RRS fluid gimbal looks like it was designed as an afterthought or by a committee. By way of comparison the Gitzo Gimbal head was clearly designed with a clear concept of what was needed and how best to engineer a solution. As with the introduction of the first Wimberley gimbal head, the Gitzo Gimbal is a breakthrough design. I bought it for shooting videos but can see how it can easily replace my other gimbal heads for still photography with my telephoto lenses.

Even better than promised. Will try hooking it to my refrigerator.

Strong enough to hold up a refrigerator, I think. Fits perfectly, of course.

I needed a heavy-duty mic stand for a podcasting setup. the K&M 252 is a homerun for this use. It's heavy enough to support an SM7B and with the telescoping boom ar,m it's low profile enough to use for video shoots without being an eye sore. The price (Although more than most stands) is worth every penny. If you're looking not to have to buy another stand for a while this is a great option.

Microphone stands are workhorses that simply must have solid construction or a gig can be destroyed if one fails. The 252 is compact (a necessity for a traveling musician) and sturdy. I've tried stands by other companies and none are anywhere as good as this one is.

The K&M 252 has proven to be my favorite microphone stand. I ended up buying six of them. I work strictly mobile, and never know exactly what situations I will encounter. The 252 has 3 sections in the base and two in the boom. I can place a mic near the floor, or high enough above a seated musician for a spot mic. I can record a piano on half-stick without removing the boom, or high and low over the strings. The stand is surprisingly heavy, which lends great stability when the boom is extended.
