This is a very simple hard drive/SSD case, but it's plenty fast. For the price you really can't go wrong. Just be careful when you slide a 3.5 drive in; keep it close to the case. Faster than most of the other cases since it's USB 3.0/3.1. Oddly, it does not come with rubber feet, but that's minor. This is a great enclosure for it's price, you can't go wrong. I know some reviewers complained about the power adapter, but you cannot spin up a 3.5 HD with USB power, it requires much more current than USB can provide.

Update can be done without old CPU with USB flash drive only.

We are using a flash drive to store and playback videos on a portable projector. I tried with a USB 3.0 Flash Drive, thinking the newer version was better. But the projector had a different idea. I learned from the professionals at B+H that this unit requires an older USB 2.0 Flash Drive. I never would have thought of that but sure enough, when I used this Verbatim 64G Ergo USB 2.0, the projector recognized the videos and played them flawlessly.

I have purchased several of these cases as I've upgraded internal drives in laptops. Purchased this case at the same time as Crucial M550 1 TB SSD from B&H. Case is excellent, and easy to install drives. Case is bus powered, either with Firewire or USB. Excellent quality product, comes with USB and Firewire cables as well as soft case. Nice compact design. While there are less expensive cases that are USB only, it was worth it to me to pay more to use Firewire since I cloned the internal HD to the SSD before swapping the drives and Firewire makes it faster. Having a good quality external case for my old HD allows me to maintain this as an external bootable drive just in case.

Got this so I could attach internal type SSD externally to a computer USB port in order to clone the C drive to the SSD and then install the SSD back into the computer. Kinda specialized but couldn't have accomplished the task without it!

I bought this drive to supplement the non upgradable 500Gb internal ssd on my wife’s IMac. It’s been in place for about a month now and is working great. The drive has Thunderbolt connectivity so it’s as fast or faster than the internal ssd. And it’s quiet (no moving parts). Time Machine backup works fine on it as well as the internal ssd so no issues there. All in all a good fit for additional storage.

I used this enclosure to copy the internal; drive when upgrading to an SSD. Works perfectly. No tools required and USB 3.0 make it a simple operation.
