Let me start by saying I was skeptical to go with this projector because I didn't think it would blow me away at this price, and I have a great VAVA 4K ultra short throw projector (which I'm selling now). This was the best move I ever made! Now that I have this new projector with zoom, pan and tilt adjustment knobs, I will never get a projector again without these features! Because of this flexibility, I'm able to achieve 165 screen in my living room at just about 14.75 feet! Insane! In order to get 150 screen from the VAVA, it has to sit too far from the screen and then it's sitting in the middle of the room. (I dont recommend an ultra short throw unless you have 14ft ceilings or higher because it's the only way to get a huge screen while having it sit not too far from the screen/wall. With the images size I'm getting now, it's like I have an IMAX screen in my living room. Picture is amazing! Looks like real 4K even though this scales 1080p to 4K like most projectors under a certain price (the VAVA scaled to 4K too and it cost nearly $3k). I can't tell the difference! Very sharp. Great color. Great black levels. You just can't beat this quality at this price! No way! Look really pro. The remote is really cool too. The keys light up when you press them which is very helpful at night. Came with batteries too. When you turn off this unit, it automatically covers the lens which is so cool! BUY IT!!! I highly recommend it! But do your research first and read everything about to make sure it's for you. This thing is just sexy! Not heavy either. The body looks like a $20,000 Sony projector. I'm in love! (I'll try to get pictures up in the near future. Too busy right now.)

I purchased this projector, because it was 2nd in a top-ten list provided by a projector review website. The 3D is much better than a theater, it displays rich color, contrast is amazing as well. I now have no need to go to the theater to watch 3D, because it looks better in my basement.

I tried an LCD projector before this one and even exchanged it for a second one. Even though the specs on the LCDs were the same as the HD66, I was very dissatisfied with the image, especially the darks. I even suspected both of those LCD projectors were defective. The LCD projector was in the same list price range as the HD66. I was comparing the LCD with a projector I was borrowing whose list priced for much more than my purchases and whose image was very good. The Optoma HD66 not only blew away the returned LCD projectors, but it was even better than the expensive borrowed projector. I use the projector almost exclusively for movies using my PC VGA as a source. The HD66 has a very wide dynamic range. The colors are rich but the image still retains details in the darks (the many dark scenes in Brave projected brightly enough). There seems to be no issue with motion smoothness. The controls are very easy to use. I haven't noticed any DLP rainbow effect. Even though some reviews said I would want to manually set it up, I was happiest with a couple of the presets, sRGB and Presentation (Film preset seemed too dark). My three minor complaints are that the throw is a tiny bit too long (my room is not very deep), there's not much of a zoom and the image focus is very slightly soft (noticeable only in the VLC or Quicktime controls). But I'm a very discriminating viewer, so most wouldn't notice this. I have not tried anything in 3D, so can't report on that. I have not tried the HDMi input, nor the on-board speaker. I've tried up to about 75 image so far. The image is so good that I have a new problem: I'm seeing artifacts and imperfections in the compression codecs of the videos I'm watching that were masked before by the performance limit of the other projectors I used. I hear that Optoma has been making projectors for a long time. Their expertise in this area is evident in the HD66.

Using this to decode an NDI source to a projector in Church services with live stream. We previously were sending the Presentation Laptops screen to the OBS computer via NDI, and used a separate proprietary wireless video feed to the main projector. Got this so we can use the same NDI source for both and eliminate the wireless projector feed. It is working well. One thing to be aware of: the projector will display will go blank in a couple of seconds if there is no video and audio activity when using NDI Screen Capture as the source. This can be an issue during power points with static screens. You can set the decoder to keep the last thing displayed on the screen or allow it to go blank. I prefer it to go blank so I know something is wrong right away. You can also resolve by making sure the NDI Screen Capture is using an active audio source (like the microphone). This decoder has been reliable and is reasonably priced. Perhaps other decoders won't have the inactivity issue but they are also more expensive. This has not been a show stopper for us.

This thing worked great. This is just what I needed to get my screen up and another screen to my projector up at the same time in my sanctuary. This was great.

The screen on this device is a big step up from the screen-less original. Often I don't quite hear what the answer to my question was and having it visible makes repeating the question unnecessary. It's also nice to have visual display of my grocery list when I ask for it. I do wish I could edit the list with verbal commands but that's not available yet. The speakers on this device seem better as well. But this is no stereo, audiophile system. Still nice to play a few tunes in the kitchen occasionally. One downfall is the on-screen links to additional information almost never work. When you ask for information, the system provides clickable links at the bottom of the screen for alternate forms of the question, etc.. I would expect that when I click on a link provided by the system it will go somewhere, instead of just I can't help with that. This is odd and occasionally frustrating. I now just ignore those suggested links. But this is an issue with the service, not the device. Good heavy base unit keeps it stable. While the angle of the screen is not adjustable I have no quibbles with it. Clean white appearance works well in a kitchen. Display is crisp enough and bright enough without any adjustment. This is not a high-demand video application so crazy sharpness or color are not required. Touch sensitivity of the screen is adequate as well. Having the clock display going all the time is very convenient as the typical appliance clock is ridiculously small, right? And there is a modern, clock display which is very eye-catching and we really love that. Very happy with this device and recommend it. As long as you acknowledge it is not your 4K television or your high-end audio system, you will love it as well.
