Whats better than a Roku, Fire Stick, Chromecast, and Steam Link? I can now tell you from experience that its having one box that does it all, and a lot more. My media streaming was a combination of PS4 and a Windows HTPC. With the HTPC crapping out after 8 years and the lackluster PS4 streaming experience, I started researching $500 HTPCs that could last the next 8 years. After finding myself frustrated by the lack of options that could reliably serve PLEX, not choke on 4K, output HDR and HD Dolby audio (and all the other future-proofing I could imagine), I found the Shield TV and couldnt believe the specs and capabilities, especially for the price.  The Shield can act as a Plex server which means I can host my movie/tv files on Network Attached Storage. And the Shield has played, without any slowness, all the HD x265 files I can throw at it.  Most importantly, the Shield has impressed my wife who has had no trouble leveraging it as our main media device. Its not bad enough to deduct a star, but Ill admit the remote is not the best design; the volume gets triggered way too often and the control pad position should be switched with the speaker button. But for this price and how much the Shield has improved the streaming experience in our house, its earned the 5 stars and Im continually impressed by all that it can do.
