Real Puncher Arcade Machine
Matthew | 2024-06-15 09:54:12 |
I have an arcade machine with over 30,000 games on it. It tears up normal hard drives, makes them run super hot and slow. I have had several hard drives go up on me because it is trying to access to much date. This SSD was expensive but worth every penny. The games run 10 times faster and this hard drive never heats up. If you have a MAME arcade machine this is the answer. 5 |

I shoot and edit a ton of 2.5k and 4k content, and I needed a machine that could eliminate some of the waiting I was doing on my previous Mac Pro (2010). I immediately upgraded to 64GB RAM, which I recommend, and it's awesome. I can now transcode 2.5k in real time or slightly less than real time. I was doing 4k transcoding at roughly 7x real time, and on this machine it does it in 3x. So that's a significant time saver. I've already maxed out the USB ports, and the one thing that's a bit of a pain is there are no front-facing ports of any kind. I knew that when I bought it, just didn't think about what a pain it would be to constantly be behind the computer. I plan to add a thunderbolt dock of some sort to give me easy-access USB ports. 5 |

This machine is not for everybody, but you are are a video editor, a vfx artist, or colorist, then this is what you want. I can now render video faster than real time. I can grade using Davinci Resolve with real time performance. My TB flash drive redlines the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test around 800mbps. It is a big ticket item, but I got 6 good years out of my last Mac Pro and it is still a very capable machine. Even so not in the same league as this new generation. This will save me a ton of time in the edit suite and will pay for itself in short order. 5 |

Everything about this little machine is very good, indeed. The fact that it is small by itself presents minor challenges, such as being able to press the menu buttons etc. since they are so closely spaced. To save space, line out, timecode and headphone outputs are tiny 3.5 mm instead of a hefty XLR, but no bid deal. My only real negative is that the headphone volume switch also has other functions if it is pressed, which is so easy to do accidentally. Though no fault of the machine itself is the instruction manual. Very very few manufacturers give you a real one, expecting you to go online. Even an included disc would be appreciated. It does come with a quick guide, covering all the functions. Again, Zoom being no exception, some functions are mentioned but not given detail as to actual use. Case in point: linking. Likewise, it would be nice to expand on any accessories and how to use them, beyond how to find the features in a menu. If people understood what's available and how to fill their need - and how to use it - I'm sure customers (like me!) would be more likely to be happier, use the features more, and buy more accessories. Looking at the reviews, even the bag/case made for the F6 isn't as well thought out, including those from third party vendors. This may or may not be an issue for you. Bottom line, accessories are often afterthoughts, so look critically before you buy, because features and specs on paper don't mean much if you find it difficult to actually use your equipment. For it's price, it's so hard to beat - I bought this instead of other brands... with no regrets! 5 |

Performs well for our arcade side art project. very easy to apply with peal and stick backing and and a Bondo plastic spreader to remove bubbles. Great price too. Printed with K3 UltraChrome Inks on Epson 4880. At some point we will probably buy some 3 mil PSA Luster Calendered UV Vinyl Laminate to really protect the artwork. 5 |
