Realtek Gaming 2.5 Gbe Family Controller Best Settings

I use these on my SX3008F v1.20 and my SG3428X v1.30. I didn't need to do anything special in the Omada Controller for any 10GbE links to any device. I also didn't have to do anything special in the settings when linking the SG3428X to an EAP670, even though the latter has a 2.5GbE port. I used a Trendnet PoE adapter, which connects to the module. With these modules plugged into the 10GbE ports on my SX3008F, and with the other ends of the cables going to my ASUS gaming PC motherboard (2.5 GbE) or to my unmanaged Netgear 5-port switch (1GbE), I needed to check Enable for Flow Control in the Omada Controller for the port.

This is a good switch for connecting a few PCs to a NAS box which has fast disks. The price is reasonable. Plug in the cables and it just works. Many modern motherboards have 2.5 GB ethernet, which matches up well with the transfer rate of modern rotating disks in a reasonably priced NAS system. Using one 10 Gbe port for the NAS, one 10 Gbe port to chain to anther switch when/if needed, and one 2.5 Gbe port to connect to an existing 1 Gbe network, allows 3 PCs to be connected at 2.5 Gbe speed.

This is a replacement for an earlier version supporting just 2.5GbE. That one appeared to die after about 3 years, although I now suspect the power adapter was actually what failed. (If this one appears to fail, I'll test with a different, compatible adapter before replacing it. Incidentally, my QNAP NAS power adapter has also been flakey; in this case the plug power cable comes out of its socket too easily.) Anyway, I decided to buy a QNAP replacement switch because otherwise this is trivial to use, performs well, and comes at a good price.

My third purchase of the OWC card. Replaced a 2.5 GbE card (PCIe 3.0). Actually averages 10-15 MB faster throughput speeds on file transfers @ 2.5 in the same 4.0 slot. Waiting for the QNAP QSW-M3216R-8S8T switch to be restocked at B&H to get to full 10 GbE on the network. The QNAP allows for link static aggregation. Using 2 cards in each computer, should allow 20 GbE transfers with copper. Will require additional purchases of this card to accomplish this, but well worth it for just using CAT6a and CAT8 copper. Better able keep up with the NVMe drives R/W in the computers. Well satisfied with these cards performance, especially in 10 GbE mode. (See below)

I started upgrading my Unifi network to its 2nd interation in fall 2022. The last piece of the puzzle was this Unifi Enteprise 24 POE which was out of stock until summer 2023. Featuring 24 ports, 400W of POE and 12 - 2.5GbE ports, it makes the perfect switch for servicing my office and AV rooms. It's reasonably quiet with POE load. 10GbE SFP cages provide upstream connectivity to firewalls or switches. So far it's been complaint free serving my 2nd floor 2.5GbE AP as well computer, multimedia, and cameras. I will likely get second down the road. Unifi is a prosumer class enterprise networking solution. If offers single pane of glass management of APs, switches, and gateways. You do need a cloud hosted controller or a local controller (Unifi Cloud Key). You also need some intermediate level knowledge of networking. But it offers a powerful set of tools such as VLANs, considerable configuration flexibility, and frequent patches and security updates. I've been using Unifi since 2018 and am very pleased with the performance and price point
