Recce Rate For Film

This has beautiful, rich tones and nice grain. It's my favorite BW film. I was tempted to rate it poorly so no one else would buy it because I like it so much. ;-) (kidding). It's worth a try if you like the look of it from any of the samples seen here, on the vendor's website, or other photo sharing sites. 5 |

I was delighted when Kodak revived this film -- it was one of my favorites and is again. I rate the film at an EI of 1600 for increased shadow detail and a smooth tonal range and process it in T-Max Developer. 5 |

I have no complaints about this film. I rate it at 64 and overexpose by 1-2 stops depending on the variation in tones/zones. Using D76 diluted 1-1, I generally develop the film for 10-11 minutes. I think this film is so soft and beautiful. I love the gray tones. Also, it scans very well. 5 |

Portra 400 is the best film out on the market. I prefer to rate is at 800 ASA and develop as though I shot it at box speed. The film is malleable enough, built to forgive user error, that the outcome is exactly as I want it, but I get one stop faster. I highly recommend. 5 |

I soup this film with ID11. I rate it at either 80 or 100iso, but I always slightly slow the speed a third or 2/3rds a stop, to give it a tiny smack of overexposure. I tray develop and use perma-wash, to clean the final neg. Air dry and it is off to the contact printing races! My advice to beginners/intermediates on all film formats, stay within the family (ie use the same brand with film/film developers/paper/paper developers.) Establish good fundamentals, tone and contrast control. Then branch out with variants. Good Luck!! 5 |

used this film in my Holga 120. Seemed to work fine. Hard to fully rate, given the nature of the Holga. 5 |

I rate this film at an EI of 125 and process it in 1:50 Rodinal or HC110 Dilution H (1:63). When there's enough light, the film is sharp and reasonably fine-grained and has a pretty tonality (to me, anyway). It's an inexpensive alternative to the other films in the EI 100-125 range. 5 |

Everything said about this negative over the last few decades is true. This is the best all-purpose film there is. And probably will ever be. Rate it at 320 and stand develop it in gsd10/30mins or Rodinal(1+200)/75mins. The grays have to be seen to be believed. And rated at 800 and developed normally in acufine, that's something else again. 5 |

I love to use this film when shooting portraits of my children. The grain gives a timeless look to the photographs, and because I rate it at 3200 when using it, I can capture my young boys without a flash, despite their fidgeting. I also like to use it when shooting older architecture in the historic part of Virginia where I live, and in some stil photography. This is one film I hope Kodak does NOT discontinue. Learn this film and its latitude. Contrast control is important. 5 |

I use this for portraiture. I rate it at ASA 125 or ASA 100. This is the best Color Negative print film available circa Oct 2012. Since its slower speed, you can (and should) stockpile this in a freezer as it is the pinnacle of silver based color films and quite possibly soon to be extinct. 5 |
