Recording Vocals Sm58

I bought this because I tired of using an SM58 for recording vocals on demos. It sounds great, has a flat response curve, and appears very well built. I do have to use a gate because it is very sensitive--never had to do that with a 58. Cannot evaluate live performance --covid 19 killed all our gigs. I wish they made one at this price point with omni or multiple patterns.

The microphone works great. No problems at all, uch better than the SM58 for vocals.

I purchased SM87A capsules to replace stock SM58 ones on entry-level PGX systems used in a church auditorium for both speech and performance. Everything has improved by an astonishing margin: clarity, dynamics and transient, off-axis rejection, sensitivity, etc. Gain before feedback is incredible and almost as good as Beta 87A. Very little proximity effect -- no boominess. Almost no sibilance. External pop filter not needed. It handles high SPL very well and never sounded stressed or overloaded. Female vocals sound truly superb with little to no EQ, while men vocals just need slight cut on low end. To my ears the SM87A is actually smoother sounding than the Beta 87A which has a somewhat hyped high-end. You can hear so much details. Very well-built and is lighter than SM58 -- balances in the hand very well. This is an incredible bargain at $ for those looking to rejuvenate tired sounding PG58, SM58, and Beta 58 wireless systems. Highly recommended.

Great sound on vocals, if only that on/off switch was recessed like the SM58, this would be the perfect mic. It's a pain to turn on/off.

I've used the SM58 for years and decided it was time for an upgrade after doing a show where my vocals just didn't cut through. The clarity of the M80 is far superior to the SM58 and it feels like it is built rock solid. I'm still getting used to the nuances of this mic during live performances, but haven't had any issues with the change. I've read lots of reviews that these are great for recording, etc but I haven't used it for that so I cannot comment.

Worked with many mic s in the past and nothing comes close to this one. I recommend this mic to any and everyone who is serious about recording vocals.

Been using these on SM58 microphones for live performances and when recording audio for video projects. Never had a problem using them. They've been very reliable.
