Reformat External Hard Drive Without Losing Data Mac

Good drive, but if you are a Mac user, be sure to reformat the Drive to MAC OS Journaled. It used to be the case that ExFat was okay if you needed to share a drive between a Mac and a PC user. But with the newer OS updates, my ExFat drives no longer read the data in Final Cut Pro X. What a hassle! I have to buy another one of these just to use it as a transfer tool so I can re-format my ExFat drives. That takes a lot of time and money. Hope that helps someone out there NOT to make the mistake I made.

This is to prevent me losing all my videos. I have been waiting for a hard drive with Thunderbolt connections for my Mac.

I ordered three SanDisks to share some large video files. They are super compact which is great. If you're a Mac user, you will need to reformat them, however, using Disk Utilities. You simply "erase" all the data and it will reformat it for Mac. If you don't reformat it, you cannot write new data onto the thumb drive. It may give you a warning that says the file is too large even if it's not. Nice product!

I've been using LaCie drives for about 25 years. These drives have always been very reliable. This drive is no exception. I recently replaced my 2013 MacPro with a new Mac Studio. When I replace my machines I also replace my external hard drives. Externals don't last forever. I feel that after 5+ years it's better to be safe than sorry. I bought this drive to use to hold my main data. Data transfer was reasonably quick. Editing photos stored on this drive I have not felt data transfer is slow or unreliable. Overall I highly recommend this LaCie external hard drive.

Purchased as a Time Machine external hard drive for my MacBook Pro. Works very well - plenty fast for backup tasks. Very quiet operation compared to the Western Digital drives I tried out. Great for long term storage of data as SSD drives are prone to data loss over time if not powered on regularly. Learned this the hard way :-/

I bought this to access data from orphan drives taken from my multi-bay external hard drive. It's easy to install a drive in the enclosure and my iMac immediately recognized the drive on startup. Transfer speeds were fine for my purpose (copying files from the drive). A good solution for me at a reasonable price.
