Rode Microphones Ixy

As of this writing there are two field recording external microphones for iPhones that utilize the Lightning connector. Zoom iQ7 and the RODE iXY. Essential to the use of the microphones are two apps available through the Apple store. RODE Rec sells for $5.99 and the ZOOM Handy Rec is free. Both apps will work just fine with the built-in microphone in the iPhone and both apps are interchangeable for either the ZOOM iQ7 or the RODE iXY. The ZOOM iQ7 costs about one half the list price for the RODE iXY. I bought the ZOOM iQ7 and am very happy with it. I don't have any way to compare the two directly. The RODE iXY may well be worth the additional cost but I suggest that any potential buyers compare the specs of the two units. I am using the RODE Rec recording app with the ZOOM iQ7 and find it far superior in terms of flexibility. I suspect that both of these apps are just a little past beta testing and there could be improvements in future upgrades. The cost of RODE Rec is nominal in my view and I would recommend anyone interested in these accessory microphones to try both apps. 5 |

It is so easy to use, and the quality of the recordings is fantastic. I have used it with Rode and Sanken microphones. 5 |

I use this in my Rode blimp with Line Audio CM3 microphones in a wide ORTF array. It fits very snug and cuts down on cable clutter. highly recommended for anyone looking for low profile cables for stereo blimp rigs. 5 |

Bought these to save some money on shockmounts for my Rode NT5 pair and the Auray ones work really well and hold the microphones in secure. Highly recommend these 5 |

I have a good size collection of microphones. When I need to record dialog in video, there is nothing better than my RODE NTG-2. I even prefer it over a lavaliere. The AA battery is nice (less expensive than those fancy batteries) when no phantom power is available. I use it with a pop screen, dead cat, and shock mount. 5 |

What can I say, it’s a Rode. There’s a reason why the NT-1 is one of the biggest selling microphones. The sound quality is superb. The cool colors are perfect for my daughter’s podcast. Really stands out. Great value for the money. Comes with everything you need. Great for vocals or whatever you put in in front of. Dry low self noise so you can compress it not expect noise. For the price, add one to your mic locker…you won’t be disappointed. 5 |

I have used cheap mic boom arms and for less quality microphones they probably work. However for quality and heavy microphones like Rode Procaster, those cheap arms can't stand the strain of the weight of those quality microphones. This one holds them and then some. If you are looking for quality well look no further. Pick this one up! 5 |
