Rode Microphones Videomicro On Camera Mic

I have tried several different on-camera microphones (Rode VideoMicro, MXL, Sennheiser) and they all sounded awful because of the weak mic output level. The VideoMic Pro actually works because it has a switch that will give you a 20dB boost of the mic's output. This hotter signal from the mic allows you to turn down the noisy preamp on your camera and essentially lower the preamp hiss.

For the price point, the RODE VideoMicro is a solid on-camera mic for capturing clear, quality audio whether for a scratch track or use in your video. It also is of the highest quality in construction - solidly built. But, what makes this such a solid piece of gear is that it has such sound quality that it can double as a small boom mic when paired with RODE's extension cable... so, you Beginner Filmmakers... save yourself some money and invest in this versatile microphone! Purchased this for the Rode Videomicro to place on a small camera. Rode does not sell a windscreen for this mic, but this one fits perfectly.

My Panasonic GX8 camera has a 2.5mm mic hole. My Rode Videomicro has a 3.5mm hole. I've had two cheap adapters fail. This rare combination of connectors and coiled cord fixes everything!

Just great! I bought one to go on a mic stand so I could attach my Rode VideoMicro to it.

I also use the Rode Video Mic and a Sony shotgun mic for video, and the VideoMicro is by far my favorite so far. I plan to travel a lot this year and this will be a great addition to my video kit. It is small, does not require a battery, and picks up great audio. I have not tested it off camera on a boom pole yet, but I look forward to the results!

This Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone Kit for Smartphones is my second RODE Shotgun mic for the smartphone. I have moved to use a Gimbal when I shoot video with my Samsung S9 and my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. Using my S9 I shot a completely outdoor wedding and reception and you could not tell the difference between that video and one that. was shot with one of my HD camcorders, the main difference was your back was not hurting from holding the HD cam on your shoulder or using a Steadicam rig. I use the Rode VideoMicro Compact mike kit connected to a DigitalFoto L bracket along with an on-camera light with temperature control.  The Samsung Galaxie Note Edge comes into play with the phone placed Airplane Mode and a Lavalier mic plugged in using a Voice Recorder app. We placed the cell in the groom's inside coat pocket and the mic picked up every word the Bride and Groom said. When you use the Rode VideoMicro on camera kit be sure to order the mic that comes with the additional cable. Then when in the edit you just match the audio with the mouths and you're all set, do the same with the music in the reception matching beat for beat with the .MP3 and what the DJ was playing. Be sure to order the TRS to TRRS cable for the smartphone that's B&H # ROVIDEOMICPC and you will save a couple of bucks.

The Rode VideoMicro microphone is a great addition to any mobile video kit. The directional mic does really well with picking up your subject and filtering out ambient noise. The boom pole that comes with this kit is lightweight yet sturdy and is a great addition to the mobile kit. The cable that comes with the kit allows you to use the mic with the boompole. The cable works for cameras, but not for mobile phones.

I sometimes mount my Rode VideoMicro or VideoMic Go II to my GoPro's when I need an ultra-mobile kit. When I also want to use the fur shield to help block wind, it gets in the viewing angle when using a wide shot. This high quality cold shoe mount helps elevate the mic to keep it out of the shot. Plus I can mount a wireless mic kit or multiple lights as needed. I like that it features stops just in case I forget to tighten things down when on the go. Somewhat high cost, but quality is buy it for life.
