Rode Ntx P48 Microphone

This is a beautiful-sounding microphone, and it's provided fabulous results even when using it for ADR and VO on-the-fly. It has a very low noisefloor and captures well-articulated sound. The real bonus is the ability to use a 9V for phantom instead of P48 - works great when using with mobile recorders that don't have enough juice for long-duration and reliable P48. In Dead air roomtone tests, differences between internal 9V versus P48 were quite negligible except for some slightly better articulation of sub 100Hz frequencies. The real plus to this microphone is that although it has a wide cardiod pattern because of the twin capsules, its perceived polar pattern and off-axis rejection are very tight with a long throw, nearly matched to that of a hypercardiod shotgun mic. One can really drill down on what they want to record with this and not pick up excess ambient noise. A fantastic mic for sound effects and recording, and even intimate foley recording in close proximity. It would be great if it had an 80Hz High Pass and 10dB Pad switch, but that's only a minor letdown amidst the fantastic microphone that it is. The 10 Year Warranty is fantastic, a great piece of mind to have.

Finally, Sennheiser has come out with an 8000 series figure-8 microphone. They should have released this mic 10 years ago. The figure-8 pattern is fundamental to MS and Blumlein stereo techniques. It’s an extremely useful pattern in general, even though most audio engineers don’t use the pattern often enough. As for this particular microphone, it’s fantastic. Sounds great (just like the other MKH 8000 series mics) with a low end much better than most figure-8 mics. Low noise. Small, light, lots of output. Nice non-reflective finish. This RF mic is not affected by high humidity. I use it in a DMS configuration with a Sennheiser MKH 800 Twin. The 8030 replaces a MKH 800 P48 set to the figure-8 pattern which was previously used in that rig. The 8030 works fine in that application, sounding just as good as the 800 P48. Compared to the 800 P48, the 8030 is slightly noisier and has about 3 dB less output; neither difference is a problem. I own a Neumann KM 120; the MKH 8030 is better. I don’t know how Sennheiser could improve this microphone. It’s an expensive microphone, so I guess they could make it less expensive, right?

I used it to record video on iphone with Rode microphone. It works as described.

Rather getting cheap Chinese shotgun microphone. it is better to spend more and get the Rode Microphone. Good Audio Quality with the Wind Dead cat it is perfect to start with

I use the microphone adapter with the hero 5 often with the Rode Microphone to make videos. This product is great asset to my videography pursuits.

used to plug a Rode microphone into a Zoom h4n. Worked perfectly.

I believe the quality of both the Rode microphone and extension cord are worth the cost.
