Rx1R Professional Compact Camera

I loved my RX1R but the slow focusing was a bit annoying. The Rx1R II is much faster and is a great camera. The images and versatility of this camera are ideal for me. The new viewfinder is a welcome addition as is the tilting back display. People have been talking about short battery life, I just carry spares. The new case is also great because you do not have to remove it to gain access to the battery compartment. Overall I love this camera and highly recommend it.

I use this for my RX1R. Its barely larger than the battery itself, and you can use the charger as a battery holder its so compact...connect via USB and away you go.. perfect.

Working with several of various RX100s in recent years, replacing Nikons after decades of work as an artist and scholar worldwide, acquired the finer RX1R II professional after announced to be on the market by Sony after reading specs. Never looked back. Continually surprised by newfound qualities in color, resolution and other digitally captured features when fine printing into large scale (4x6'+) prints with the Epson 9900 professional printer in the studio for site-specific installations globally. Trained in painting and printmaking in formative university years, there are qualities realized here thanks to the RX1R II never experienced to any great degree in photography. Yet with hands-on visual potentials unfolding especially with color to contribute photographically in extraordinary ways beyond other mediums and media. Now acquired by museum collections internationally, the work to expand newer directions thanks to the remarkable digital camera system is hardly limited by the imagination.

I used an RX1R for about a month and while it was a great camera, the AF was a huge drawback if anything in the frame was moving. Fast forward to the M2 and the focusing on this thing is fantastic. While it isn't perfect, it does an admirable job of keeping up with my 1 year old for those days I don't want to get the DSLR out. IQ is fantastic and the file sizes haven't been too bad to deal with. Battery could be much better, but there are cheap extra batteries readily available if you don't mind 3rd parties.

Bought this to carry my Sony RX1R. The camera fits but you have to stretch the zipper in order to close the bag. This makes taking the camera out quickly very impractical. For something with a lower lens profile (Ricoh gr3 or Fuji x100) this would be perfect. Still, I like the design of the bag so will keep it for carrying my phone and keys.

The image quality that comes from the RX1, RX1R and the RX1R II is amazing, coming from such a small camera. The tilt screen and the pop-up electronic view finder is makes the mark ii version of this camera even better. Improved auto focus is a great improvement allowing more sharp images when tracking a subject. The manual controls make this camera a joy to use. The 35mm focal length is my favorite, and this camera allows me to focus on taking pictures, rather than carrying heavy camera bag with multiple lenses. Also good for astrophotography (summer months better to capture the milky way) as chromatic aberration doesn't re-shape stars like the 6D / 24L or 35L combo did for me previously. Definitely a keeper! Get a few extra batteries too ... you'll need them :)

RX1R II is a great camera, but for the awkward grip that one has to bear. This solves that problem, and makes RX1RII my favourite camera!

I've owned both the Sony RX1 and the RX1r. Each were designed for specific shooting scenarios and had their own strengths and weaknesses. The Sony RX1rii allows you to have both models in one with improvements in focusing, dynamic range, color capture, etc. I find this model focuses faster than the earlier versions, produces better images, and even better video. I find myself rarely reaching for my full frame DSLR and keep this camera nearby. The variable low pass filter allows me to eventuate resolution when needed or avoid moire when intricate patterns appear in such things as clothing, architecture, etc. This camera is even improved in its low light performance. The pop EVF is great. The camera may have lost its pop up flash, but the smaller Sony flashes fit easily in a pocket or small camera bag. I also kept my Electronic View Finder that I used on the RX1 and RX1r models. It fits on the hot shoe and allows you to swivel it for low composition-- perfect for those who need reading glasses and don't like using the flip up LCD. This camera is expensive, but it's constructed well and performs spectacularly. What good is a camera you leave at home? This one is no chore to carry. Photo opportunities are rarely missed with this camera.
