I use this drive to create a disk image of my c: drive on my laptop. Easy to use.

I bought this DVD Drive to go along with an ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW DS71T laptop which doesn't include an internal DVD drive. This DVD drive is barely the size of a DVD disk. It matches nicely with the laptop. It comes with a software disk and a USB splitter cable (you will need two USB ports available on your computer to use this drive). It is well constructed and functions beautifully. The included software is optional. This drive is plug and play, however, my laptop didn't come with Windows DVD Player software. No Problem... I downloaded a highly downloaded free DVD software suite and it works perfectly. It does what I bought it to do. It is not a blue-ray player though. If that is important to you, you'll need to pick another drive.

Got this for backups. But then the Samsung T7 I got was so slow I decided to use that for backups instead. This spinning disk drive is actually faster than the Samsung SSD! It's the most utterly stupid thing Samsung ever did with the T7. The T5 was a solid performer, the T7 a dud that can be lapped by a normal old hard drive! Anyway, this works exceptionally well for a bus powered spinning disk. I keep all my projects saved here when travelling, then I make copies to a disk array when back at home base. My only gripe is that I wish it was USB C.

After reading Lionel's recent review here, I spoke with Samsung customer service and was assured their data migration software would work with the 860 pro. So I took a chance and purchased this item. Just completed replacement of the 120GB SSD system disk in my W7 desktop and the process worked perfectly, aided tremendously by having a Sabrent EC-DFLT external hard drive enclosure that was housing a 3.5" drive used for storage. After removing the 3.5" drive from the Sabrent and replacing it with the 860 Pro, I installed the Samsung data migration software, which did update after its installation, from version 3.1.0.1 to version 3.1.0.3. I then ran the data migration software - the process took 17 minutes and prompted me to install the 860 pro after it finished. I powered down, swapped the 860 Pro for the old 120BG disk, rebooted, and the system started with no apparent change except the system disk now has 380GB of free space. On the basis of this experience, I recommend this product and send Kudos to Samsung for providing the very helpful software.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I got my first SSD (Samsung 860 EVO), I was amazed of the speed from a disk drive to SSD upon Windows boot up and in game boot ups and loading screens. This new Samsung 990 Pro is blistering fast. This is my first NVMe M.2 SSD and it is quite an upgrade to my gaming PC. Samsung Data Migration made it easy for me to copy over from one SSD to another SSD. I had also done this for the disk drive to SSD with no problems. Love the software. The changes in speeds is astonishing. See pictures for Performance Benchmarks from Samsung Magician. I am starting to get into streaming, so I can't wait to get into content creation and edit my videos with this SSD as well. With the increase in resolutions of these videos, you almost need a fast NVMe to work on 4k/8k videos now a days. Samsung has done it again. I'm going to keep buying Samsung SSD's because they have been reliable thus far. I am extremely happy and excited to push the limits of this SSD.

I use this drive as the Time Machine backup disk for my laptop running OS X Yosemite; it works nicely. With the drive on my desk, I can still hear the cooling fan, but I don't mind it. I think the device is well designed (easy-to-use and looks good), and it has a good warranty.

When you have a 4TB Mac laptop and want Time Machine backups that keep old versions of files and folders around, you need a backup drive bigger than 4TB. This 8TB drive, formatted with APFS and encrypted, does the trick. Old fashioned mechanical disk drives take forever for Time Machine backups. Since Time Machine runs hourly, it's nice having a drive that can backup everything quickly. This was an expensive solution, but it is so nice knowing I can revert to an old version and keep a lot of old versions of stuff around. The peace of mind is a big payoff. This may sound weird, but I mainly use my laptop at home, sitting on my couch with on my laptop - of all places, sitting on my lap. I just taped this drive to the lid and plugged it in to a TB port and it backs up while I work. Yes, it looks ugly as sin, but I mainly look at the front of my with the screen and keyboard. I don't sit staring at the laptop lid with an SSD taped to it. Besides, there's nothing prettier than a properly backed up disk.

I replaced an OEM HDD on a Windows 8 HP G7-2246nr laptop with this SSD using Macronium Reflect Free. Noticed improved speed right away. Old HDD was hot to touch when removed. Glad it's gone. Here is what I did. 1) Created system image of entire old HDD to additional external USB HDD using Windows 8 File Recovery tool just in case. 2) Purchased USB 3 to SATA cable. 3) Installed Reflect and viewed support page that explains how to use Reflect. IMPORTANT 4) Cloned all partitions of old HDD in the same order that they are listed under source disk (0) in Reflect. Since is was downsizing from 512 GB old HDD to 240 GB SDD, I paused after dragging C: into destination disk to resize it down to 197 GB and set the drive letter from Auto to C. 5) Added all subsequent partitions including D for recovery (25 GB). Finished Clone keeping all partitions at original size except for C drive. 5) Shut down laptop and swapped out the hard drives and rebooted. Windows 8 recognized the SSD and there was no need to go into EUFI.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this SSD Drive to replace a old 500GB WD Blue. What I like about the Samsung Drive is the Magician Software. It allows me to clone my old drive using a SATA to USB. Once I put the new Samsung drive in my laptop. The laptop loaded windows faster than my spinning hard drive and my program responce is smoother and quicker.

Disk arrived amazingly quick (next day!) I love the disk, except I never did get it set up for over provisioning. Samsung could do a better job with software to facilitate this. Even so, I'd still buy this SSD again. As always, BH Photo is my go-to provider.
