I did a lot of research before I got this camera ... I was able to narrow my search to the M31. The camera will be used for home and light commercial use doing training videos and short interviews for PR work. Huge point in my research was making sure you could use the camcorder easily with a Mac and Windows format. Took my first videos, hooked straight into MacBook Pro, started iMovie and there were my videos ready to download. No fuss, no mess...it just worked.Very pleased with the quality of video and features the M31 has in comparison to other like camcorders of the same price. Is it everything I wanted in a camcorder, no, but none of the others were either. But for the price, the features and the quality of Canon, it will do until I decide to step out of the consumer category. 5 |

Works seamlessly with Vixia HF M31. Wind screen a little furry for my taste, but works fine. 5 |

The Canon Vixia HF M31 is a perfect match for people using iPhoto and iMovie. B & H professionals gave excellent answers to detailed questions before I purchased the Camera. The information was correct and both the Camcorder and Camera work perfectly. 5 |

Have been using this for a few months now and it works great. Used with my canon vixia hf m31, creates much better sounding videos. It picks up the sound in which direction you are pointing it with minimal background noise. Best mic I could find for a decent price compared to some other high end models. 5 |

I purchased the VIXIA HF M31 camcorder after becoming familiar with the slightly older VIXIA HG20 I purchased for work. I looked over several similar models outside the Canon VIXIA line, but found myself attracted to the VIXIA HF M31. I use this camcorder for both casual home video and professional work. The quality is THAT GOOD! The HF M31 uses 32GB flash RAM. There is no hard drive so concerns over shock or corrupt data are largely eliminated. It's also faster to power up and shoot when compared to hard disk based recorders. It includes a secondary SDHC memory slot for expanding storage space and allowing the ease of data transport from camera to computer. The HF M31 is largely controlled through a touchscreen LCD with a menu system that is quite intuitive. Setting white balance for changing light conditions is straightforward and quick. It will take some time to get used to the amount of pressure required to activate the touch screen. Perhaps the strongest feature with this camera is it's amazing image stabilization. Small hand-held cameras such as this one make it difficult to keep steady. However, Canon's stabilizer technology, especially when using the POWERED IS (Image Stabilization) button makes your video look far better than it should. Gentle pannning appears like it was shot on a tripod. Even maximum zooming shots hold tight in the frame. Audio recording is well above average for on-camera microphones. An input for an external mic is available. I have not yet used the mini-shoe for a boom mic, but have purchased an adapter in order to use standard shoe accessories. I highly recommend this camcorder to anyone wanting to capture HD video, up to the videomaker who seeks to take a small camera on the go. It's compact, light weight, and a big bang for the buck. 5 |

I purchased this filter to protect a Canon HF M31 camcorder (B&H # CAHFM31). A choice was made years ago to use only B+W filters on our photographic equipment for a number of reasons, clear optics, brass mount/housing, built to last, and albeit not related directly to the product itself, a broad offering and in stock availability from B&H. 5 |

I don't usually write reviews on anything. Before I spent any money on a high dollar item, I do at least a three day research on the web for that product. I did this for a new camcorder. I narrowed it down to two manufacturers, one of which was Canon. I work with someone who has a Canon digital camera and he says nothing but great things about it. So I leaned a little toward the Canon brand. I mostly look at reviews and comments from other people as a gauge to decide on purchasing. This was true in this case. I chose to go with the Canon Vixia HF-M31. I also discovered other people were so happy with the Vixia HF-M31 that they posted videos on YouTube, which was another factor. After comparing features with other Canon camcorders I chose this model. I am glad I did. Once I started to learn on how to use the camcorder and software, I found out it went beyond my expectations. My deciding factor was the size of hard drive and card slot. Once I got the camcorder, I had a small learning curve to use some of it's best features. The unexpected benefit of this camcorder for me was the picture quality. I highly recommend the Canon Vixia HF-M31 for those who want professional looking videos and photos for whatever the occasion. 5 |

I,ve stepped up from a Canon ZR 600 to a VIVIA HV 30 and now to this VIVIA HF M31. I still use them all and enjoy my 3 Canon cameras too. My fovorite part of using the M31 is that it creates great video and I never miss a good picture. By using the high settings on video I shoot scenes instead of pictures. (ever try to get your grandkids to all smile at the same time) Then I go back and watch the footage and (with the camera settings set high) save my pictures from it. They come out crisp and beautiful and are not missed because of digital camera lag or lack of focus time ect. Guess if there is anything I miss on this camcorder it would be the viewfinder without having to open the viewing screen. I can honestly say I've never had a Canon product I didn't like. 5 |

The Vixia HF M30 is almost identical to the higher-level HF M31, with the only difference being the amount of built-in storage. It offers SD card back-up, a touch-panel LCD, advanced image stabilization, and a 15x optical zoom. It offers the best value for the money, just the touch-screen interface extremely difficult to use with short battery life. But, you will get used to it after sometimes with a spare back up battery. 5 |

This is my first EQ mount so got no base of comparison, however after a good amount of research, I decided to go with the Skywatcher EQM35-pro. For the beginner to intermediate amateur astronomer It’s probably best bang for the buck. Ordering & shipping from B&H went without a hitch. Just factor another $150 on top of price to get to your doorstep. Setup was very straightforward. First impressions, this is a sturdy piece of equipment. Everything was well-packed (with good instructions) so I was able to assemble and get it polar aligned within about 30-40 minutes. I had not used a synscan controller before but it’s quite intuitive, just plug in all numbers for your location. I opted for the 1-star alignment (Vega), fine-tuned a bit to get star in the middle of my EP, then asked to pull up M31. This thing slewed for a few secs then boom Andromeda right on the money. I left it there for a good hour while I was futzing around with some other stuff, at 30x M31 still right smack in the middle of my EP. Impressive. I pulled up the Pleiades next, then M42 and voila! After a year of dealing with a hand-operated altazimuth in light polluted skies (where finding new DSO’s manually feels like a little victory each time), this thing was like hitting the Easy button. I then tried a longer exposure frame of Pleiades at 30 sec (unguided) stars were all pins. And when I returned to M31 later at night I even noticed it execute a meridian flip! I was worried it would trip on itself so to speak but handled its motor cables and never snagged anything. I am very satisfied to say the least. As for weight and balancing, it handles my rig nicely even when operating right at the max limit for its specs. I have a 6 inch newt (viewing) with a Crayford so that OTA runs about 14-15lbs and then 70mm ED piggy-back on the newt with reducer/flattener before the DSLR for another 7lbs. The two counterweights both needed to go all way to the bottom and it was just right. Highly recommended. 5 |
