Samsung T5 2Tb Usb External Solid State Drive

I installed the Samsung 250GB Solid State Drive in my Lenovo desk-top computer. I moved Windows and all my application software to the solid state drive and all of my personal files to the internal disc drive. The disc drive is backed by an external disc drive. The resulting system is much faster. The installation went very smooth, although I had the entire system backed up on an external disk drive incase anything went wrong.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Say goodbye to storage limitations! The Samsung T5 EVO packs a whopping 2TB (and beyond!) into a pocket-sized powerhouse. I can’t believe 2TB can really be this small. Its sleek, minimalist design feels premium in your hand and shrugs off bumps with its sturdy rubberized casing. This lightweight wonder easily slips into a bag or even a small safe, so your precious photos and videos are always on the go. Connecting via a convenient USB-C port, the T5 EVO is plug-and-play even for tech newbies. Autoplay guides you through file transfers, and speeds are quick enough for everyday tasks. Although it originally writes slower than advertised on our home computer (could be our USB port) it’s still snappy for everyday tasks like photos and videos, especially after switching to a faster USB port on my work laptop as the software suggests. Moving a 10GB folder took just under a minute – not bad for a pocket-sized drive. You don’t need the additional programs that Samsung offers, like Magician, but they are a nice compliment, especially the ability to add security. The T5 EVO delivers big on storage, style, and security, making it a perfect portable companion for everyday users

I got my BMPCC 6K in May and to keep in budget I only picked up a 512gb Samsung T5. By the time I realized I needed a larger drive Samsung discontinued the T5 and released the T7. However the T7 doesn't have the buffering speeds necessary to allow recording on the BMPCC 6K. So My only affordable option for a 2tb drive according to Blackmagic's recommended list was this Wise Advanced 2tb ssd. Well even though it is on the pricier side, I am glad to have one. It works great, comes with its own mount for my camera cage, and provides plenty of recording capacity. I just hope these aren't discontinued before I have the budget to buy a second one. And B&H was the only trusted retailer I found that sold this capacity.

This is a wonderful external drive. I own three of them and also three of the older, 2TB drives with Thunderbolt and Micro-USB 3.0 connections. All have proved to be absolutely reliable and fast enough for simultaneous playback of multiple high-resolution videos. I haven't tried dropping one onto a concrete sidewalk from the top of a tall building, but the orange bumper around the drive certainly provides plenty of protection against ordinary wear and tear. (As I said, I've never had one fail.) The bumper also provides good friction, so that the drive will sit on any surface without slipping. It also means there's no need to keep the drive in a separate case. Lacie originally made drives predominantly for MACs, and those who used the older drives may have experience some minor inconvenience installing them on PCs. But these new drives are completely plug-and-play. Also, on the older drives, the orange bumper extended too close the USB socket, so that the connection was not perfectly tight. This has also been corrected on the newer modes. Overall, a great drive.

Small, 2TB external USB drive. Perfect for backups of photos/videos during travel. Hard to believe it was less than $100.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I can't figure out why I was opposed to ordering my new computer with a Solid State Drive instead of a HDD. Perhaps I was leery of the technology. I since replaced the HDD with the Samsung 860 Pro Solid State Drive. Before it to several minutes for the system to boot, now it is almost instantaneous. The overall performance of my system has increased 100 fold. Kudos to Samsung for their continuously innovative products. They made me a believer.

For several years I have been using the small Samsung USB-C external drives (almost credit-card sized) -- I used two 500GB and one 1TB drives along with Carbon Copy Cloner and my MacBook Air. That worked well (although the 1TB became corrupted and unusable about 3 months ago) and I would especially back up the drive before any flight and separate the drive from my laptop at TSA. I just upgraded to a (wonderful!) MacBook Pro 14 and attempted a Migration Assistant transfer from the Air using a fresh Samsung backup. I let it run for about 8 hours and it never got past the first Looking for applications and documents... stage. To cut to the chase: I thus ordered this 500GB LaCie drive and did a fresh CCC backup from the MB Air. It took 7 minutes to backup 400GB of data! Using the Samsung with USB-C it would take 13 mins for ~22GB. (See screenshot of CCC logs.) I hooked the LaCie up to the MB Pro and started Migration Assistant. The whole process took ~15 minutes. Previously it would take hours. Sorry for rambling on. TLDR; A wicked fast external drive worth every penny. And Thunderbolt makes a huge difference!
