I purchased this NVR for a simple two camera security system on my home. I bought a separate hard drive, which gave me twice the recording capacity for the same price as one that came pre-installed. Installation was easy, thanks to videos on YouTube. It came with the necessary connectors to install the hard drive. I installed the NVR , along with my cable modern and wifi router, in a pantry and it works fine. It is plugged into a good quality surge protector. It make a bit more noise that I expected, but it is not bothersome. Hopefully it will provide years of service. 5 |

I had three reasons for purchasing this item: (1) Lots of storage to cover 3-4 cameras for 7-14 days (2) Reliability - WD products have been very reliable for me over the last 5 years (3) This type was recommended by the manufacturer. When filming on location for more than a day, we deploy these for security. Wireless security cams' trigger times were glacially slow, so we changed to IP cams and a NVR. The ethernet cables are strung so nobody will trip over them and run to the NVR to the tent where the security guy is posted. After the shoot, the cameras, cables and NVR go into a Pelican case and wait for the next location job. 5 |
