Security Camera With 30 Days Recording

I really like this HDD. It lets me run six 4K security cameras and keep about four days of footage while running the recording 24/7.

Have used Seagate for several years with no problems in NVR's for security camera recording. Highly recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Quite reliable. I have used it on security camera with loop recording and it has been working quite well.

I installed 3 large disks, 2 x 18 TB and 1 x 24 TB, for use 24/7 recording security camera footage. Connected via USB-C to a new computer with an Intel i7-14700 CPU. Each disk is recording 4-5 MB per second.  Disk installation was easy. No noticeable fan noise. No need or desire for any RAID setup - running as JBODs. Wanted 5 bays for future expansion. No problems or hiccups so far.

I'm using the StudioRAID in a RAID 1 configuration recording security camera videos on a Windows PC. Setup was easy. It's recording multiple cameras 24x7 so it works hard and performs well. I like that there is no power brick. My only complaint is that it is noisy. It's the hard drives, not the fan. I've noticed this with other Glyph arrays. Usually it's not a problem as they are a server room or space that is already noisy.

This is a great Camera with a few tiny concerns to me. The battery takes two hours to fully charge so if you take HD videos you get maybee 30 minutes before needing a recharge so then a second battery is important. Another thing is the HD recording is in MOV format and it will only play in Quick Time on a computer with the Canon software Zoom Browser Installed. Without Zoom Browser installed, Quick Time won't play the MOV format Canon makesprobably because MOV editing capability is embeded in Canon's MOV format I also find that MOV format gets only 30 minutes recording per 4 GB's data versus the preferred MPEG-4 format used on higher end SLR cameras for HD recording that compresses four times better at least. If this Camara could record in MPEG-4 format it would be much better. For example you can put a two hour MPEG-4 movie on 4 GB's data as the film industry uses on DVD's. Other than that I love this camera because it is highly functional, yet relatively small. I avoid those big SLR camera's because in many situations they are too intrusive to use casually in public and are easily left at home because they are a pain to lug around. This is a very practical camera for all uses except professional wedding photography and the like.

Roughly 20 years ago, I was looking for a video camera that could record for long periods of time. I was disappointed that the best camera I could afford back then was limited to only recording for 30 minutes. Technology has finally solved that problem. I've been using this camera as though it's a security camera, recording at 1080p/30 to an external SSD. I've let it run for up to 8 hours at a time and have had no issues using the camera this way. Take that with the fact that you get Davinci Resolve Studio with it and you get a video package that is very capable. The low light performance is pretty good - it's actually better than my eyes at getting detail in low light situations, though there is some slight noise in the image. Overall, this is a great video camera at a great price.

I wrote a review a few days ago that there aren't any heat issues. Finally had one. I was 30 mins into filming 3 mins clips at 4k 30fps 10 bit and it overheated and shut down. I waited a minute and it was all good and asked if I wanted it used "higher temps" before thermal shutdown. Ok. Dunno if that will help. I still think, even with that, it's a phenomenal camera. I'm not a pro and just watching some how to's, the results are world class. As I mentioned. If it's in the budget, this is a really great camera to learn and produce amazing content.

The automatic on/off as recording starts is alone worth the premium. For the past few days I have been recording internal remodeling job and had to move camera around workers quickly, changing angles, tripods, clamps and lenses. The timing was dictated by the situation, not by me. Having a mic that works as an extension of the camera is great - they sleep and wake up together. As for the sound, it's what you'd expect. More than good for that level of boom mic.
