Server Redundant Power Supply Ups

I bought this January 2024 and today got around to configuring it to my liking. It works great with my Ubuntu Linux server. Ubuntu Noble Numbat. Got this so that a power burp won't cause my server to crash. always good to have redundant power.

This is a well built bugger. I like the low power consumption since it's on 24/365. Power supply fits in my UPS conveniently. Little known Trendnet makes good things. This is my second switch of theirs.

I have a server with 12 hard drives and no staggered spinup. My last power supply, even though a 850w was not booting due to power supply shutdown. After installing this one it boots with all 12 hard drives plus all the extra power heavy stuff. Seasonic is the best of the best as far as power supplies go. They only make power supplies and they know their stuff.

This is my 3rd APC product purchase. Like those before it, I expect to outgrow it before having any issues. Of the 3, only the first needed a purely age-related battery replacement This unit is the primary and handles the Synology NAS (media server), both i7-class desktops and their monitors, and all networking. The secondary handles external drives for the NAS, one room light (desk), and mobile devices. This configuration permits orderly shutdown (UPS - NAS) and allows the HDDs to be free floating after shutdown of the OS. Total power consumption is approx 550 VA across the 750 VA & 1500VA units. Minimal runtime on battery is 17 minutes (tested). Power in central PA is unpredictable. On the clearest of day a power event can cause just enough interruption to 'crash' the NAS and force a restart. Recovering from abrupt shutdown is a long, time-consuming process while the RAID set verifies the file system (25 TB). A UPS of some time is mandated with a RAID-configured media server. This unit has been in operation 14 days, the weather mild (no snow), and has already had 2 events. None of the systems even noticed it. I've recommended APC to friends. One just purchased 3 BR1500G units for his office. Two blade servers and the file server. Enough said?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received a shiny new BX850 UPS recently. I'm using it to protect a small home office server with critical personal and small business data on it. SInce I live in an isolated area of the high desert, power fluctuations, sags, and outages are common, especially when the wind starts blowing hard. This UPS has already saved my system a couple times. The downloadable software makes it easy to interface and protect the server from prolonged outages. I also like the fact that I can determine how much power the system is consuming. The Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) is a very nice feature. My input power varies quite a bit, but the server sees nice steady voltage and the clear, well-illuminated LCD display.lets me know just what is going on. Overall a great product, and it came packed in recyclable cardboard. The package had been banged around enough to partially crush a corner of the box during shipping, but the UPS was in perfect shape. The included setup guide was both comprehensive and very readable. Some other manufacturer hardware documents I've received have been printed in very tiny, low contrast type, and were hard to read. This UPS arrived with readable documents--very refreshing! In addition to my home use, I am a practicing computer security professional and system designer,and I use UPS systems to protect a major IT Datacenter andlarge network where I work--also out here in the High Desert areas of Southern California.

I bought this to provide backup power to 2 workstation I use as fileservers. One has Ubuntu server, the other is SUSE 11.x as a file server. Integration via USB and apcupsd works like a champ. Both computers will shutdown after the period of time I specified and puts the UPS into standby until the power comes back. And all devices automatically restart. Very sweet. I choose the size based on power supply ratings and the actual load on the UPS is only about 33% capacity. As it turns out, I could have gone with a smaller unit.

I take cybersecurity very serious and naturally run vpn's from a central server on my own private LAN, which means knowing that my network will not be interrupted by power outages or damaged by surges is a huge deal for me. This was the perfect solution as it was easy to setup and fit perfectly in my rack. Fair warning, this thing is deceptively heavy, so be prepared for a bit more effort to carry it around if you need to move it anywhere. It takes some time to get the batteries fully charged but that is the cost of having long lasting backup power. In addition to providing backup power to my server, computer and router I also use this to backup my tv and video game systems in my office. I have no doubt this could run my whole office in a pinch, but I doubt I will ever push it that far. In addition to being a powerful backup solution it is well designed with a nice sleek look if you wanted to set it up anywhere in your home for consistent power. It is a bit of a luxury purchase but I don't think there is anything better on the market and highly recommend this if you are in the market for a UPS.

I needed to assure constant power supply for my snake terrarium and this UPS is the perfect pair, so far working great, handles enough power for my needs, have a heating pad and Ceramic heating along with a couple thermometers and some UV light.

I had a simple use case for a UPS to supply power to some equipment should the power flicker or briefly fail, and this UPS meets the need.
