Setting Up Microphones For Podcasts

I love these stands for my Rode Microphones. They make my podcasts great sounding and great content

I'm setting up a personal studio for podcasts and wanted to buy the best equipment. I purchased a top of the line microphone and received this high quality boom as a free bonus gift. I was so impressed that I bought my mixing board from B and H also (which came with more free gifts). B and H is definitely the first place that I look for my audio/visual needs!

I use four of these to record podcasts in a busy corporate setting. After two years of use, they still look and work like new. If you're using a larger, heavy microphone (such as the Electrovoice RE-20), the counterweight is very helpful. The base is heavy enough that we have never had to sandbag the stand, even with the boom at max extension. The casters are dependable and silent. This is an incredibly heavy, sturdy stand -- it is likely to be overkill for many situations. But wimpy stands generate years of hassles (and even ruined takes when poor construction lets the boom slowly sink). If you want to buy something dependable once so you can forget about it ever after, consider getting this brick house of a stand.

This thing is great for setting up microphones or cobbling together some sort of Frankenstein rig. It's Arca compatible from both the top and the bottom, which means it carries some heft, but weight is a worthy sacrifice for how cost-effective, sturdy and versatile it is.

We use rechargeable batteries for wireless microphones in a university class setting. After the pandemic lockdown, a lot of our batteries were fried from sitting on the charger for a year and half, and this tester was wonderful for identifying batteries that went bad and those that didn't. I'm so protective of this now, I won't even let someone borrow it. A little pricey, but it's worth it.

I was first introduced to this mic when setting up a clinical teaching observation system, and they are nice microphones. I our situation, they hang straight down from the ceiling grid. They seem to pick up speech quite well in our clinic rooms.

We use the SCM410 in a classroom setting where there are fixed microphones in key places (at the lectern, at the whiteboard, etc.). Instructors can move seamlessly from one station to another and the mixer will automagically recognize that the prior microphone has gone dead (and basically mute it) while prioritizing the new microphone the person just moved to. It removes all thinking and headache out of mixing audio in a small-ish space. Shure did a really nice job with this.
