Shield Android Gaming Console

2024-07-17 07:21:50

My shield arrived promptly beautifully boxed. Remote and controller feel very solid and all connected and worked as described. The user interface is fast! A great change from the cheapie media player this Shield replaced. Plex was up and running in no time and KODI as well. All fast and stable. This is my 1st Android box so there is a bit of a learning curve getting used to the terminology used and the navigation around the system and settings but I am sure that's more of an Android thing than a Shield thing. The picture is fantastic out of the Shield - very happy with it though I cannot speak for resolution above 720P as non of the material tested was greater than that. So whilst there are certainly cheaper players out there and I cannot make any comparisons , the Shield has been brilliant out of the box and I look forward to giving it a thorough workout in the months to come.

I enjoy this offer that allows me to secure my android devices and PC and have security visibility, in a centralized console in the cloud.

We're old fogies, so when I wanted a better streaming client it was hard to wrap my head around a game console. The Shield is everything a Firestick should be. It's much faster, both operating and booting up. It also allows for a wired connection and works incredibly well with Plex.

I am using the Shield for streaming , I previously had one of those “cheap” android boxes for a couple of years. The Shield blows it away in every category. A lot of Google store apps won’t work directly with the Shield so they need to be side loaded which is very simple. This is a quality product, its worth the premium over the other less expensive options.

The Shield is a few years old now, but its still awesome. Nvidia did a great job of future-proofing the hardware on this, and they consistently keep the software up-to-date. The remote is simple and functional, and the added benefits of GeForce Now and GameStream are worth the cost if youre into gaming. I actually got the Shield even though I have an LG smart TV... it just doesnt compare to the simplicity of Android TV. Also Android TV doesnt show me sponsored content like my stupid TV does. Although its Google so its almost definitely siphoning all my data to show me ads elsewhere.

The shield is a very well working android player, this is my second one. add a Micro sd card for added storage. you can find less expensive players but you end up replacing them every year due to functionality issues.

In the past, I used a Western Digital WDTV Live for Netflix, as well as to access all of my locally-stored media (a task at which it still excels). but it is becoming old and not totally reliable for Netflix. I also have a Wii U, which handles CrunchyRoll, and, lately Netflix, without the crazy background noise of the XBox 360. It, however, lacks a couple of features I use, such as local media access and Internet radio. Both the WDTV and the Wii U are not likely to see much feature development, unlike an Android box. Hulu, for example, was pulled from the Wii U last year. When the new Shield TV was announced, I hoped I could use it the replace the streaming and local media services of the WDTV and the Wii U. It ships with Netflix, although I could do without the Netflix button on the remote, and CrunchyRoll and Kodi are free downloads. So far, all are working well.Setup options allow for system flexibility in terms of audio channels and video display. The main menu is also easy to personalize. I have paired a Bluetooth keyboard for text entry in search fields and there are some games which work with it.My only difficulty is not with the Shield, itself, but wading through the sea of streaming apps, to see what is really usable. There are many free ones, but the activation requires an account on the web site of the publisher, which cannot be done through the Shield, apparently by design of the publishers. I have not yet tried the pay services, other then Netflix and CrunchyRoll which predate my purchase of the Shield. What I have installed, so far, easily fits into the smaller memory of this model Shield, but I added a 32G MicroSD, just as I did on my old Android phone, and made it primary storage for everything.
